Before you give up, if you have not already sent the radio off to Will, try doing a reset of the microprocessor. As if you were replacing the command board.

Dan: Thanks. I'll see what I can do. I'm thinking of perhaps an ALC limit to reduce output power automatically when tuning. If I had an ICOM radio, that's already done. Not so for Kenwoods, though.

Sounds like the microprocessor is hickupping. Try resetting the microprocessor and see if that helps.

The "1" button with a zone down arrow is 38-05671X40
And, the "3" button with a zone up arrow is 38-05671X44

You can also buy a large Zone button, and then make it a zone up or down key. The small keys work the best, though.

You should be able to correct by reading and then writing back to the radio. 01/82 is a checksum error, which is normally automatically fixed.

If that doesn't work, there could be a more serious problem, such as a damaged command board or MLM. Or possibly an incorrect EPROM type byte.
