How can any handheld-handheld radio talk more than about 7 miles. A handheld held at 6ft high has about 3.5 miles before the horizon drops off. assuming no obstructions and another HT at 6ft could hear that singal 3.5 out, that gives you 7 miles max range. QST ran an article about using linear actuators to raise and lower a HF vertical mounted on top of a motor home. They used a lever action so the pull would move the antenna vertical.

Can the Pyramid SVR-200U Vehicular Repeater be programmed into the ham bands? The software will not directly allow it, but is there a codeplug or work around? Any option to program this into the ham bands?

If your just trying to work local repeaters and locals simplex location is of minimal issue. most police depth side mount there VHF low and live with the directionality it gives

http://www.bdenterprises.com/products/ appears to have gone out of business. I know they dropped the ba1 item last fall. The compnay was a small 1-2 man company. Looks like the fleet product will do what you need at a price similar to the ba1.

Vertex does make a "dual band" commerical mobile. its really 2 single band moble with a single controlling head. Much the same way kenwood tk-x30 and x80 series can be used dual band.

I can only assume thats the way he is getting dual band out of vertex.

while the common convention is that any part 90 radio is legal on GMRS. The rules DONT say that. Only specificly certified part 95 parts are legal on GMRS.

Take a look around, Strobes are being put on EVERYTHING. Lawn care companies have stobes on there vehicles that might be parked near the street, anything city, county, state or federal has strobes and often lights. Heck take a look at Police vehicles, Just how many light can you put on one vehicle!!...

The 97 has airbags and control systems behind the overflow tank. THat were I usually would go in, but it looks a bit scary behind that part of the dash.

Sounds to me like a way to get someones fingers chopped off if you forget about it and go to check the oil. Add some more batteries and set an alarm, but dont start the vehicle.

I dont know of any ball mount that can be installled soley from the outside. IN addition to 3 bolts, nuts and washers to put on you have to connect the lead wire or coax to the mount. sglass, I did a similar install on by old blazer and tahoe. I see you mounted the 706 on the floor. Did you ever look at putting in on the overhead console? I got the X-lite software phone work. Had a quick call with john and made one call out on the PSTN line. Nice sounding audio once I got the settings correct. Little old PII laptop seems to hand things well.

First thing to remember is just because it loads up and you have a good SWR it may not be a good antenna. A 6m dipole on 80m radiate worth a darn. Now the 706 issues.
