Key Button Press Test Mode
I feel bad asking this question because I've seen the answer here before. I just can't find it now. In the XTS-3000, there is a test mode where the number of the button pressed on the keypad is shown in the display. The test mode is similar to the 5 key presses in 10 seconds, but it's different. Doe...

Need Help Programming a Maxtrac w/SJI LTR mod
All, I bought a 800 MHz Maxtrac on eBay to use as a control channel monitor. Come to find out, it has the SJI LTR firmware installed. Fortunatly, my local LMR shop was able to program the radio, but I want to be able to do it myself. Are the PGM-2 boards from SJI still available? If so, where? I loo...

XTS3K Test Mode Button Sequence
Hello all.
What is/are the key sequence(s) to test the buttons on an XTS3000? I remember once the sequence is entered, the radio reports in the display which button number was pressed.
Thanks,
-Caff

DES OFB
Isn't DES-OFB Output FeedBack.
As compared to DES-CFB or CipherFeedBack.
If I'm not mistaken, this the difference between DES and DES-XL.
I could be wrong, though.

Good luck on the project. I didn't think it would work until I saw USGOVTECH's post about modifing the radio to pass DC. I guess that hard part would be getting the transmitter to give the proper frequency shift to corresponding DC level from the receiver. Then it would have to be able to keep up wi...

XTS with keypad problem
All, I've got an XTS-3000 with the partial keypad (6 buttons). The top 3 buttons have developed a problem where when they are pressed, the radio does not "see" the keypress. Have others had this problem? Is it with the flexi connector going from the keypad into the radio, or is it generall...

Skeptic
I'm one of the skeptics. My bets are on that it won't work. The 4-level FSK being the reason. It potentially "could" work by using an ASTRO radio to turn the ASTRO data back to audio, then take that audio and send it out on the transmit radio. It could work but the problem would be very di...

CQPSK
I thought CQPSK was going to be used for the second phase of P-25. I've been out of the P-25 development loop for a while, but I thought it was going to give 1.25 KHz deviation with 6.25 KHz channel spacing.

I will say, that having used both, CPS is easier to use, but you have to have a background in RSS to appreciate CPS. I was able to program up a new system with CPS in a little over an hour with CPS where it would have easily taken me 2+ hours navigating through F2-F4-F9-F4, no wait, I wanted F3... -...

ASTRO Trunking Questions
I hope this post won't get too long-winded, but here goes. I have some trunking questions and they mostly have to do with ASTRO trunking. That's why I'm putting them here rather than in the general forum. Let's start with an example system in Example City. Let's say Example City has a Smartzone syst...

Weird MODAT Stuff Too
Remember, I had the same problem with CPS 1.02 on an XTS-3000. I posted the problem here in the forum and the suggestion was to delete change the signalling then delete the personallity. It did not work. A person here in the forum offered to fix my codeplug by using a hex editor. I emailed him my co...

"Virgin" Codeplug needed for XTS-3000
Can anyone please send me a virgin codeplug for an 800 MHz XTS-3000 with H38 Smartzone for use with RSS 8.0? I have always been using CPS instead RSS and if I use RSS to read the codeplug, RSS says the codeplug is too new. MY XTS isn't working properly on a conventional Smartnet system and I'm not s...

In addition to caller ID not working, I can't get the radio to display the channel text of another channel while in scan. Caller ID on an XTS-3000 using CPS
All, I know in the past that I have enabled an option that I remember as "Caller ID" in the RSS. I did this on an older XTS-3000 (512 K firmware I beleive), as well as a MTX-2000. When this option was enabled, I was able to see the radio ID of the person initiating the PTT. It worked fine ...

You won't find that personality because it is not there anymore. You need to create a new personality and new zones that the modat is currently programmed to revert to. RSS/CPS Question on an 800 MHz XTS with MODAT
OK, I have two questions. But before I ask them, I need to give a little background info. I bought a used XTS-3000. I used RSS versions 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 and got "Codeplug too new for this application" error. So then I tried CPS. CPS told me there were errors with the codeplug, but did I wa...

AM with FM Modulation
I read that you could use an FM radio to "simulate" AM by tuning the FM radio 5 KHz lower or 5 KHz higher than the AM station. As the deviation of the FM radio passes into the receive passband of the AM radio, it is seen as an "amplitiude" modulated signal. I've been meaning to t...

ASTRO On A Repeater?
Wait a second. It shouldn't work. The ASTRO signal is a 4 level FSK signal. How could a 4-Level FSK signal that is detected by a FM receiver and then re-transmitted as FM (not FSK) be decoded by a receiver looking for FSK?. I don't see how it could work. I am using the words "shouldn't" an...
