The audio from the narrowband transmitter will sound low to the Saber, and the transmit audio from the Saber will be distorted in the narrow receiver. It may in fact cut out while overdeviating.

It sounds to me like you've rigged up some sort of system to key the transmitter based on received audio. Ordinarily the transmitter is keyed by a carrier operated relay. Properly fuse both orange and green lines, connect them to the main red power line and just remember to turn the radio off when you park the car at night. Eliminate the whole issue.

My MT2000 is so programmed and yes, the MURS freqs are at 2w and the 151.xx freqs are narrowband. The way I interpret Part 95 this is legal. I sure hope I'm correct.

If there had been a fuse in there as Jack mentioned, it would have blown before any damage had resulted. The protection diode, like any diode, conducts only when the anode is positive. It's installed so the anode is on the negative power lead. So it only conducts if the supply is connected backwards...
