Re: Portable usage in police agencies
I'm awful curious how the deployment of a receive only voting system introduces delay into the transmit By the latency in the slowest link, which is always the ethernet. If the customer uses all T1/DS0, you can use the rough calculation of 6uS per mile to determine the latency. But, if they use eth...

Re: Portable Usage In Police Agencies
What I need to do is find out if they are co-located repeaters and if they are set at the same power levels, same antenna, etc. It might be fun on a quiet late night or weekend to see how analog vs digital compares for range. Thinking about this, I recall I've already done this experiment (as you d...

It would be an interesting experiment Jim, but difficult to perform because of the number of variables. That's why DAQ tests are a subjective mess. I've never built a perfect system. Incidently that is only about 80Hz away from right on frequency and it usually does not get much better.. Your decimal point is off, it's 800Hz. And even at 800hz, Memo's radio should still be working. He needs to explain the problem he's having that he thinks is related to being slightly off freq.

Agreed. It's a "birdie" of some kind occurring at the IF level. You won't see it at the carrier freq on a service monitor. It will be at a lower freq. Almost every piece of electronic equipment built emits a birdie, though not necessarily where you think it should be. Case and Point - a lo...

+1 on not recommending the upgrade. The MTR2K is a fine machine, and you won't gain any benefit from upgrading. If you want to go digital, then buy a new radio, or wait for the MTR3K's to come on the market as they age out. So far, they are turning out to be good radios too.

Did you just program them with 15.5 Trbo CPS? There's a known bug in the latest version that causes super loud volume. Read the radio, open general settings, and then go to minimum volume. Toggle it up and down from mute to something and then back to mute. Then blow it back in. Should fix the problem.

Good point Bob. That same pot area seems to attract the corrosive leakage from the caps. The feedthroughs and resistors are often damaged there. I'm also betting there are damaged feedthroughs and landings on the command board causing the audio problems. The cap rework needs to be thorough.
