EBay seller mre1032 has a cable specific for this purpose. It can also be had with external speaker leads and an ignition sense lead. His work is the best and he’s recommended by many folks.

Fully agree with Jim’s assessment.
Those recessed contacts on the VI’s clog up easily.
Be sure to verify that charging light comes on when you insert the pager into to the cradle AND that the belt clip latches securely. Check the manual for proper charging indicators.

Once you solder to those pins, you've essentially trashed them for any other use in the future. Better to spend about $10 and get an Accessory Connector kit from Ebay seller mre1032. With the new FRS/GMRS rules that just went into effect on the 18th, you can legally run up to 2 watts on 1-7 and 15-22 now as FRS. 8 to 14 are still 0.5 watt, however.

Head or no head doesn't matter. If you program it for Ignition Sense Only, sooner or later you won't be able to fire it up at all.
