MX Radios
I believe the DES capable MX's were about 3/4 of an inch or more longer than the standard radios. And there would be a switch but I don't recall what is was.

How Hot is it?
When NiMH's first came out I got one for my radio and it worked great - so I ordered them for everyone else, about 30 radios. A disaster, I never leave my radio in the car -Arizona at 115 degrees today. Those that did leave them in the car (like all weekend) ruined them in less than 60 days. Motorol...

800 MHz Antenna
I've had good luck for several years with Stico 800 MHz cell look alike antennas - yes in black always. Most often I used their 800 MHz/VHF combination if you have a need for anything other than 800 MHz. Also used their stand-a-lone antennas when needed - even the little stingers.

Solved it several years ago by having him remove the battery from the radio each night before recharging. Wearing the radio for 10+ hour...

Motorola Radios
Reading the above post reminds me of something my Motorola account rep used to tell me whenever I questioned some of his pricing:
"Mac, You can buy better but you can't pay more".
But I still kept buying them.

Programming Cable
You don't need a long programming cable, you need a long PC to RIB or serial cable extension and you can make that quite long. I've run serial cables ove 50 ft. without a problem and would think you could go much longer. Years ago I debated this question with a Motorola shop for quite a while until ...

Spectra Scan
I believe 16 modes is the maximum in each scan list and even that is kind of slow - but you can have several mode slaved scan list.
