I would like to remove the vol knob from one M3 and install it on another M3. I can't figure out how to remove the knob. Can someone tell me the trick? If you have to open the case, I will just send it out. I always seem to break the case as I open it.
Thanks.

antenna SWR
While working on the previously mentioned VHF MTR2000, I checked forward and reflected power in the antenna feedline. It was 72W forward and 8W reflected which I calculated to mean an SWR of 2:1. This seems excessive to me, what do you Batlabbers think? I did not have time to climb the tower to look...

MTR2000 question
Today I worked on my first MTR2000, without manual as usual. I wanted to take the speaker audio and run it into my analyzer that has an automatic 12dB SINAD feature, it's very convenient. But the audio level from the 4-pin modular jack (SPKR) behind the front cover is too low at about 100mV. I need ...

Maxtrac problem- logic board?
Calling all Maxtrac experts. I have a D34LRA73xxx that was donated to the local ham club, they want to use it as a link radio. I offered to test and program it for free. Problem is that it does not TX or RX, neither the CH button nor the MON button work. The two LEDs are on constantly. I followed th...

two-tone decode on mobile
I would like to set up a VHF mobile in a firehouse with one channel programmed to be muted until the right two-tone pair is received, then to go carrier squelch for a specified period, and then auto-reset. The other channels would be programmed without two-tone, mostly carrier squelch. It appears th...

tvsjr, you are correct. My brain went to lunch last night. The SW is v3.01, the DOS version. (Is there a Win version?) OT: Kenwood question
When programming a TK780H you get to choose either 136-162 or 146-174. If I pick the former I get a mixed trunked/conventional setup screen. Pick the latter and I get a simple conventional only screen. Why these frequency splits? BTW this is a Passport-enabled unit.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Bob, I am not looking at replacing any internal harness cables of critical length, just the external jumpers. They have two 6 ft jumpers and an isolator in the tx path. One 6ft jumper in the rx path. They don't need to be that long. I would hope the external jumpers are not critical length. I got so...

I had a chance today to make some more measurements. As stated the receiver sensitivity is 0.25uV, measured directly into the RX jack, with a dummy load on the TX jack. So today I disconnected the antenna from the duplexer ANT and replaced it with the monitor in duplex mode. Sensitivity was reduced ...

Well, lets hope they don't retire you anytime soon. We may need your expertise again. In fact, today we asked for a tone test to make sure the M4's work. They work just fine on my service monitor. They work fine on dispatch tones, except they don't store the voice message. This is probably because d...

duplexer design curves for Moto?
In the back of the Telewave catalog are some duplex curves for the GE MastrII. They show how much filter attenuation you need for 1dB max desense for a given frequency offset. There are two curves: 1)one curve is for the transmitter noise sidebands as a function of frequency offset. 2) another curve...

Nand, that looks exactly like the cans in the cabinet. All of the harness inside the cabinet is RG8/U (black) except the tee which is exposed braid cable. I agree, the jumpers are next, if the desense test is positive. You mention the duplexer harness, I was wondering about that. It seemed to me that a a bad leak of tx into rx inside of the duplexer would explain the symptoms last time. The tee of the duplexer is made of exposed-braid cable, hard to s...

You both have raised many good questions, and I will do some more checking. (With blinders off, Jim). Nand, you are correct the monitor has a dummy load and will run duplex. I agrre that RG-214 would be a better choice, that is on my list of things to do. I am so far unable to flip the the transmitter on and off because being a mobile radio there is no switch. repeater desense problem
While checking a repeater I found what appears to be 7dB of desense. I cannot figure out why, so any help is appreciated. The agency said it had gradually gone "deaf". So on Xmas eve I quickly checked the rx sensitivity with the tx terminated in a good quality dummy load, and measured 0.25...

How hard is it to interface a Doug Hall 4RV voter to a Micor repeater? It might be a MSR2k, not sure of the differences, will get the s/n later. I would like to hear from someone that has done it successfully.

A while ago I sold some Nova pagers to a department that had used Minitor 2 for years. The Nova is similar in design to a Minitor 2 so I expected them to work, where a Minitor 3 would not. Bench tests confirmed that (at least in my crude fixture) the Nova was more sensitive than the 3, but not as go...

This is a dumb question I suspect, but how do you make a maxtrac accept a codeplug from another radio? (ie clone) I can do this on every other moto product but maxtrac. I get the "serial number mismatch" error. I have read the help file but I don't get it.
Help please.
