Re: Quantar won't startup
Curious, after replacing the chip did you build a new codeplug and try to load it or did you think a blank chip would already have a codeplug on it? After I replaced the chip, I still could not connect to the station, so I could not load a plug onto it. At least, not with that station, and it is th...

Re: Quantar won't startup
I ended up replacing the SCM and all was well. I wish I cold have figured out how to fix it though.

Re: Quantar won't startup
Put the new EEPROM in and the station responded exactly as it had before. Station On light on steady, and RX2 and RX Fail light flashing alternately. Cannot seem to comunicate with RSS either.

Re: Quantar won't startup
Ordered the EEPROM from Digikey, and it is due to arrive today. I will search around here for the procedure to get that set up. I am hoping that once I replace the chip, I will then be able to connect with the programming software and start alignment. As it is now, I cannot connect to the station.

Re: Quantar won't startup
Xicor, and I cannot tell for sure, but I believe it is original. When you ask about the eeprom, do you mean the firmware chips or the codeplug chip? Codeplug has Xircom on it. Here is the section of the SCM with the chips: https://photos.app.goo.gl/qDGEzeap7knYCh287 I found someone selling all the c...

Quantar won't startup
Just received a used VHF 125 watt Quantar. Upon power up, I get Power on and no module fail on power supply. Exciter shows all 4 indicators lit, TX lock, PA Full, PA Low, and PA Fail. EPIC 1 SCM shows only Station On solid, bit then RX2 Active and RX Fail lights flash alternately back and forth. Wir...

1600S with 10mhz spurs
Hello All, I have an IFR 1600S which I have had for years. Suddenly I am now getting spurs on the Spectrum Analyzer every 10mhz. If I set the scan to 50 or 100 mhz, I don't see them as I assume they get lost in the large resolution bandwidth. When I get the scan down around 500khz, I can see the spu...

Re: Aeroflex (IFR) Questions
Looking at this more closely, I see that the phantom spikes are connected to the Scan setting. If I have the analyzer set for 5 MHz, the first spikes are 5 MHz above and below center frequency and then the next spikes are 10 MHz away from those. If I use a scan of 10 MHz, the spikes are 10 MHz away ...

Re: Aeroflex (IFR) Questions
Hello All, I have a 1600S who's Spectrum Analyzer seems to have an issue. When I set the Scan to 10MHz or wider, the display shows about 8 signals of equal amplitude and equal spacing. This is with a 50 ohm load on the antenna input. If I try to scroll the frequency towards the peaks, they disappear...

Using earpiece with speakermic
I am thinking of buying an earpiece for my MT2000 but I am wondering how the mic and earpiece will work together. With the earpiece plugged into the jack on the speakermic, will the receive audio come through the earpiece only, or both the earpiece and the mic?
Thanks for an answer to this easy one!

MT2000 baclight not functioning
The button (green) is programmed correctly and it used to work. I think, it has been a while, it stopped working after separating the radio one day. I have made sure the ribbon cables are seated properly but no joy on the backlight. Upon pressing the button, I get the beep but no display or DTMF bac...

How to tighten antenna connector on MT2000?
I took the radio apart as far as I felt comfortable doing, but I could not see the underside of the antenna connector. What is the method used to tighten this?
Thanks for any guidance.

Someone with more experience will contribute, but I believe the rule with NiCads is to run them down to 1volt per cell. Each cell is approx 1.2 volts so a 7.2 volt pack would be 6 cells. You would want to run it don to 6 volts before recharging. Voltages may be different for other chemistry's. Feel ...

Where can I find Tuning Info on MT2000?
Do I need a manual from Moto, or is it doable without? I have access to the LAB RSS and a service monitor. The sensitivity on my VHF model seems off and if I discover that the radio is lower than spec, I would like to try and adjust it myself.
Any tips?

Best way to print programming data?
I am up to about 120 personalities programmed into my MT2000's. I fiddled with the PRINT function in the RSS and was woefully unimpressed. I really would like to have a printout of some kind to aid in reoganizing my programming but the RSS makes it difficult. The RSS prints like it is doing a print ...

This battery is a NiMh. So, sinceI was told in another thread that these types must be rapid charged in charger designed for them, what to do with a new pack? The sticker from Motorola said 16 hr initial charge but then listed only rapid chargers as acceptable devices to charge with. Seems that the ...

I apologize if this is a dumb question, but did you try any other batteries in it? I just sold mine and never had that exact problem. BTW, is it one of the newer chargers that works with NiMh? Mine had a sticker saying only NiCads, so I bought a new one which does NiMh and it is exactly the same mod...

What is preferred charge method with 8 hours available?
I am currently using 2000 maH NiMh packs for my MT2000's. Most of the time, my batteries hit the charger before I go to bed and come out when I get up leaving roughly 7-8 hours in the charger. I believe that given the choice, the batteries will hold up better using a slow charger. However, I also be...

The battery and charger are both Motorola. The battery lists the chargers that it recommends charging with. Charging NiMh Battery in older rapid charger OK?
Are the charging parameters similar enough that it would be OK to charge Moto NiMh battery in the NTN7209a? Battery only rapid charges for about 20 min. then switches to trickle. This from a battery on a radio indicating low charge. Moto battery does not list this charger as compatible, but maybe th...

I bought their 2700mAH NiMH model for my MT2000. It seemed ok at first, but now the slightest jolt and the battery separates from the radio. Procedure to update firmware MT2000?
I have done a search on this subject in these forums, but the others seem to have had newer versions than me. Mine shows R01.42, so I assume I don't have to worry about "toolproof" for now. I have RSS version 6.05 and a regular RIB.
