Re: XTS3000 Questions about repair/maintenance

The response I got basically was burn me at the stake for using "non-approved" equipment on the Ham channels. I kinda had to scratch my head because isnt the purpose of ham radio operators supposed to be experimenters, tinkerer's, making do with what's available. Last I checked, other tha...

Re: To newly registered users: Welcome! Please read...

Thanks for providing a great resource for Moto information. I got my first moto radio and it has been an interesting experience. Glad to be a member of the board, just wish it didn't take so long for posts to get approved :( but totally understand why. Darn spammers/junk dealers..

XTS3000 Firmware Question

I haven't found an exact answer to this and motorola's website is being less than cooperative. Are you required to have an MOL account in order to obtain any new firmware for the XTS3000 radios or am I SOL because the radio is no longer supported or is there a section of their site I am just not fin...

USB to Serial Adaptor that works

Not really sure where to post this, however I figured I'd post it here for other's information. I have a Belkin USB to Serial Adaptor that I typically use for my Cisco Systems equipment. I figured I'd try it out on my radio cable and much to my surprise, it works. The model Number is F5U409 and I'm ...

Re: XTS3000 Housings

I'm not sure about stateside, but if you decide to go with panter, he's good. I dealt with him a few years ago, and got many cases and they were all great. Good luck! Thanks for the advice. He seems to have outstanding feedback for an international seller but I've never delt with someone outside of...

XTS3000 Housings

Greetings Moto folks, Got another question for all of you. I now know that the XTS is no longer supported and parts are becoming harder to find, however, is there any likelyhood of locating a yellow housing for this radio? I see one from a person on ebay named Panter88 (i think) who appears to have ...

THank you for the heads up! I will double check the software version on my radio and see what I've got. And thank you for the tip about the reputable dealer, its hard to know who's who.

Re: XTS3000 Programming Cable

Thank you for the information. I will try it with my serial adapter first and see what happens. I did plan on getting one of the RIB Less ones for sure just wasn't sure which one to get. I mean obviously the one for my radio, but like from which supplier, Fleabay, wiscomm, 123radio.com, etc. This ca...

XTS3000 Programming Cable

So while looking for the proper programming cable for my new to me radio, I am noticing that the prices vary wildly from the dirt cheap, to the overly expensive. Other than choosing the overly expensive OEM Cable there are so many choices it's hard to detect what is the cheap knock off junk vs the a...

Re: Moto Part 6685833D01 ?

Do you complain when Snap On charges $100 for a wrench that is made of maybe 1 dollar worth of metal? Or do you expect your vendors to not make any money? Like they're running a charity or something? Use a flat head screwdriver to the open the case. If you happen to crack the housing or cut the O-r...

Moto Part 6685833D01 ?

Ok, I know I was born yesterday, under a rock, in the dark, on a far away planet and I have no common sense, but seriously. Why in the heck is the case tool 6685833D01 20$ when its 25 cents worth of plastic and metal?!?!?!?!?!?! Been trying to track this down and all I see is highway robbery! :o :o ...

Re: XTS3000 Questions about repair/maintenance

FWIW, the XTS2500's are falling in price, and are way better radios than the XTS3000, as they are about 10 years newer, have better battery life, and are fully supported (and still being sold) by Motorola. I prefer the form factor of the 2500 to the 3000/5000, even though it is a "lighter duty...

Re: XTS3000 Questions about repair/maintenance

Jim, What about a 2500i? One is being advertised as a Q band split with coverage from 380-470. FireCpt, thanks for that tip. I did ask a few of the local hams but they tend to shy away from commerical gear, especially Moto. :(

Re: XTS3000 Questions about repair/maintenance

Thank you Jim for the information. I figured around 100$ was the bench rate for these places, but just wasnt sure if i was even in the ball park. Thank you for the bit about the R digit, I've found alot in my search that says it covers the entire 403-512 range but I was 99% sure that wasn't possible...

XTS3000 Questions about repair/maintenance

Greetings all, I know I'm a bout to commit a cardinal sin with some people so let me apologize ahead of time, however, I need something that can perform the tasks I need in the smallest package possible. I am looking at an XTS3000 UHF Model 3 to use on ham frequencies as well as commerical however i...
