Re: APX Video Speaker Mic (VSM)

Oh. I thought this was an exciting new way to snapchat with the dispatchers. :-P

Still kinda cool though, I like the idea of less things to carry.

Re: APX 7000 FOR HAM RADIO USE

While it's nice to enter frequencies via the front panel keyboard it's better to use a computer. Front panel programming is tricky when you have to set tx, rx, CTCSS, NAC, talkgroup, etc. Only my HF allows direct frequency entry, all my other 'ham' gear is pre-programmed. I carry a $75 HP Windows 8...

Motorola TxMessenger Message Tone

Greetings,

Does anybody happen to have a sound clip of the "message received" tone used by Motorola's TxMessenger program? The ones that goes "doo doop!"

Couldn't find it anywhere, so I figured I'd ask here.

Thanks!

Re: APX7000 A-B-C Switch Easy Fix?

I answered my question myself. The control top bezel pops right off once the spanner nuts and control knobs are removed. Problem solved, another remains: the root cause was that the ABC switch arm (the plastic piece) broke off. I'll try superglue first, but any chance someone has a bad control top l...

Re: APX7000 A-B-C Switch Easy Fix?

Thanks for the reply. I had actually already tried the vacuuming (that and a barber's brush is how I normally clean this); when that failed, I tried the canned air trick. That didn't work either. In moving the switch, it feels as though the "movable" part of the ABC switch (what I touch to...

APX7000 A-B-C Switch Easy Fix?

Hello all, So I have an APX7000 that is used in a high dust / high dirt environment. I clean it regularly, but sort of figured that the ABC switch would eventually fail due to all of the inaccessible area inside of it that can't really be cleaned. Sure enough, the switch failed today. It feels like ...

Re: Astro 25 III as a NC System Scanner?

I've done this to monitor a small (two TG) 9600 system down here. Easy to do. All you do is program all of the site's channels as receive only conventional personalities, make up a scanlist with those personalities, and voila you are set.

Re: MTS2000 Wrong Talkgroups

I have a scanner. My local Fire Department pays for me to be on the trunking system, I just wish they would let me use 1 radio to do 2 functions within the county. You've heard that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, right? This is one of those situations. Sure, it makes sense to have ...

Re: Anyone doing IWCE 2014 in Vegas?

If you're looking to save $$$ on lodging and you're a military I.D. card holder you could always stay at the inn on Nellis AFB. Rates depend on pay grade but me and a couple buds stayed there a couple years ago to save some cash and it came out to $25 or so a night. From there it's a 20 minute strai...

Re: Radio Advice - XTS3000 or Astro Saber

It is really up to you. I guess the only thing to consider would be that XTS3000 and XTS5000 accessories will work with each other, so in case you ever upgrade to a 5K you wouldn't be out a speaker mic or batteries. The Astro Saber programming cable and a generic RIB are available on eBay, I paid le...

In case you can't fix the LED issue and decide for a replacement, I found this gem on eBay:

Re: Saber III - LCD backlights dead - any fix?

Thanks If one LED is bad, does that cause the other LED not to light up? Depending on how the curcuit is built, yes. I don't have a service manual to reference though. Your post got me thinking, so I spent about an hour sifting through the Astro Saver service manual and circuit diagrams. Although I...

What can make an Astro Saber blow a fuse?

My AS III had given me a new problem- I went to power it on yesterday and it was dead as a doornail. I disassembled it (thanks Batdude for the awesome guide) and with the service manual I was able to find the problem- a blown SMD fuse on the RF board. I don't have the skill to replace SMD components...

Also, be sure the VOCON has proper insulating film (orange color) on the upper part of the VOCON . If it doesn't, especially if you plug in a crypto board, it will blow the fuse at some point. ). According to my service manual, the NLD8829B/D board has F1 in the middle bottom of the board, right of...

Hello,

I have been a registered user since March of this year. I know that I have not made many posts, mainly because I have been too busy reading and learning about things before I go off and ask a silly question. Can I be moved to the "Registered Users" group?

MTS2000DES, Thanks for your help. I went ahead and put an ad up in the FS/FT section. You make a very good point also about being aware when buying radios from unknown sources. This was my first radio purchase in nearly ten years off of eBay and I am sorely disappointed in how far the quality and re...

Re: Astro Saber III- Poor Digital Reception

When was the last time the radio was aligned? If not, this is the starting point. Unknown. The previous owner made no mention as to when it was aligned. Since I would figure a fresh alignment would be a selling point, I can assume its been quite some time. Are there still shops that service older M...

Astro Saber III- Poor Digital Reception

I have an AS III VHF radio that I got about a year ago. I don't transmit on it much and it serves mostly as a secondary receiver in my work vehicle. While the radio has AWESOME analog reception (I could hear my local 2m repeater from nearly 200 miles away), it is nearly completely deaf when receivin...
