Suggestions

I agree that you should go with the LEDS, the Honda CRV has a small battery and alternator. The battery tray may not hold a larger battery, you might want to go with an OPTIMA yellow top battery. For better visability you might want to consider mounting the front Talon underneath the rearview mirror...

ideas

I had a 2001 Honda Accord that I used for response. I outfitted that vehicle with a Federal Signal Firebeam that I placed on the dashboard with some velcro. I then had two dual Whelen slimlighters mounted on the back deck with velcro. I was planning to install a pair of Whelen TIR3 in the grill but ...

dashlight

If you are looking for a single dashlight as your only warning light I would go with a Federal Firebeam halogen revolving light with cigarette power plug, go with the dual speed version with a clear lens and then choose the colored filters you want. It is fairly cheap about $60 The TIR3 are nice but...

Yes

Yes, other manufacturers do make a couple of brackets for external grill or deck mounting. They make a universal bracket, a L shape bracket and a license plate mounting bracket. These brackets can than be adapted using additional brackets from home depot or even industrial strenght velco for interio...

Evaluation

I also bought a dual version for evaluation purposes. They are currently nearly 50% less expensive than a dual Talon. The case is slightly smaller in size when compared to a Talon and well constructed using aluminum. The suction cup mount is also made of aluminum with 3 suctions cups that hold quite...

Suggestion

The old 80 led Whelen slimlighters did provide a light with a fairly large viewing profile when viewed head on, however I did find that during the day time, sunlight tended to wash out the warning light. Also, they did not have a very good projection and dispersal pattern. By this I mean when you vi...

NYC

I saw a Toyota Prius being used as a marked vehicle for the city's Department of Transportation, I don't know if it had a siren but it did have a Liberty LED mini-light bar. They may have been testing the car since I only saw one driving around. Other city agencies are using them for example the DEP...

IMO

I've used the SVP Micro Tone too, it is kind of big to have in one hand while driving so I do agree it could be a hazard when driving. I usually kept it mounted on the dashboard and just reached over and flipped the switches. When I wanted the vehicle to be more covert I just took it off the mount a...

Recs

Go with the HT1000 is you don't have too many frequencies to plug in. Sixteen is the maximum on a HT1000, the big plus is that they are dependable and cheap. The downside is that they are ancient technology, the RSS is DOS based and you should have an older computer for programming. Otherwise go wit...

Welcome

First off welcome to the fire service and to this forum. Choosing a warning light is really based on how much projection power you are allowed and will need. In some states the laws limit how much output you can have in a personally operated vehicle [POV]. For a rural or suburban area I think you ca...

Suggestions

I definitely agree with the Talons for the rear deck, the amount of light that will shine through will depend on a few factors, how dark the tint is, how you angle the Talon, and colors. Clearly, the darker the tint the less light will penetrate, you might want to consider getting less tint say no m...

Update

Sorry it has been quite a while since I have posted my progress. I have picked up a black 2004 CRV-LX with a manual tranny. I have installed a Dynamax speaker with Whelen airhorn, Firebeam halogen dashlight and for the rear I have opted to mount a pair of dual Talons, instead of my original plan of ...

Final Decision

Hi Folks, As promised I would update you all with my decision. I have settled on the Honda CRV-LX AWD with manual transmission. The exterior is black with a black interior and I will be picking it up in a few days. There is no privacy glass so that installation of warning lights will bypass the hass...

Hello All, Thanks again for all of your input, I have also perused other review websites regarding the VUE and CRV and based on what I have read and your inputs I have decided to go with the CRV. Honda CRV Ambulance Service Vehicle

Hi folks, Thanks again for all your input. I have followed up on all of your advice. I have looked at the Jeep Liberty and Ford Escape. Compact SUV purchase help

Hi Folks I currently use a four door sedan for EM/Disaster/Rescue response and I am looking to replace it with a compact SUV. I will not be considering the usual mid/full size Ford or GM SUV. I will need this vehicle to get to work everyday too so reliability and mileage are critical. I have narrowe...

Thanks to everyone for responding. Although expensive as are most LED the 911ep's seem to be a well made and compact traffic director and yes I have read that they are waterproof. I haven't made up my mind yet about going with these LED's or a more conventional halogen traffic director.

A 40K truck is a lot of money to be experimenting with. You didn't say if this was your personal vehicle or an agency vehicle.
