Re: Whats the point of buying a 110w radio?
What a great old thread. Keep it alive! I use 100 watt radios in the mobile, mainly due to the terrain of SE OK. They help out quite a bit really. The difference is there according to everyone on the other end when compared to a 40 or 50 watt radio. My compliment in the mobile includes Maratracs on ...

Re: New member, working on a MSR2000
^^^ That's exactly what I thought. I tried to send them the complete elements so they could be temp compensated, but they advised they were no longer offering that service. So I just had them send me the xtals while they were still taking orders. However... After a couple of evenings worth of work, ...

Re: New member, working on a MSR2000
I'm using the MSR station meter, TRN5080. It has the small uA meter & a speaker built in. All of the measurements are correlating with the service manual. The IF of this particular repeater is 10.7MHz. The MSR's came in both 10.7 & 10.8 IF's, depending on your RX setup. I've tried injecting ...

Re: New member, working on a MSR2000
Ok guys. After several delays, I'm working on the MSR 2000 again. Other projects with priority over the MSR came up, bla, bla, bla. Anyways. Here's where I'm at: My new crystals came in from ICM. I have them in the channel elements. Everything is back together. I'm on step 4 of RX alignment in the se...

Re: International Crystal Going out of business
Bring you guys up to speed. I've been searching for someone to make some crystals for various projects the club has going right now. Bomar is out, JAN is out, I'm waiting for a reply from QuartsLab in England. LapTech in Ontario can make new crystals, but the minimum order quantity is 15 crystals pe...

Re: International Crystal Going out of business
Thanks for the links guys. I was about to lose my mind. I'm going to make contact with these alternatives asap. Very sad about ICM. I have no clue what happened up there. I just spoke to them last month about getting some CE's done for the MSR2k's we're working on and it was business as usual. I gue...

International Crystal Going out of business
https://www.icmfg.com/ Guys, I'm looking for alternative options for Micor & MSR2000 channel elements. I have a BUILDING full of mint condition Micor base repeaters, MSR's & MASTR II's, waiting for conversion to the amateur bands. ICM was my go-to outfit for channel elements. Has anyone used...

Re: Kenwood TK2180/3180 vs Motorola XTS, Waris and Jedi
Well I'm a little late to the party but I'll throw my 2 cents in. I own a full keypad 2180 and a fleet of Waris portables. Honestly I like them both but my Kenwood will out hear the HT's bar none. It has a much hotter RX than the HT750's and the HT 1250's I own. Mind you this is all VHF equipment. I...

Re: Waris Portable (HT750 & HT1250) Battery Question
com501 is correct. While similar electrically & visually, they simply won't fit the Waris line. They won't mount to the radio, nor fit in the base charger. I just went round & round with some PRO 3150's that were donated to our club. Naturally they were all missing the batteries and chargers...

Re: New member, working on a MSR2000
Sage advice guys. I appreciate it. I'm gonna leave no pot un-turned. I did scrub the cards and the back plane down, so that's taken care off. I have always been told to steer clear of the MSR intermittent duty PA's. Seems the heat generated from long qso's causes them to expand and contract somethin...

Re: New member, working on a MSR2000
Thank you guys for the help. You are both exactly right. I pulled the PA and put it on the bench. Took the back cover off and cleaned both the power limit pot and the power set vc and CAREFULLY cleaned up the board with deoxit. It is now producing 100 watts every time as it should. Now, my next ques...

Re: To newly registered users: Welcome! Please read...
Hi guys. New member checking in from SE Oklahoma. I've been lurking around BL for some years, but just joined the forums. I'm not much on the facebook groups. At any rate, I have numerous projects, starting with a MSR 2000 that I'll be seeking guidance on. My long time mentor has moved across the st...

New member, working on a MSR2000
Hi everyone. My name is Matt, W5KVV. QTH is McAlester, Oklahoma. I'm President of the local ARC. We recently picked up a continuous duty MSR 2000 in the VHF flavor. I have it here in my shack and have been working with it the last few days. This is my first MSR, but I am familiar with the Micor line...
