From a technical view, the Thales25 is one heck of a radio. The Thales25 looks to be my next VHF portable if I can find someone to service it. I like the pricing transparency of Thales, but the real value (to me) in Motorola is the service/support network. The service and support, to me as an indivi...

20-gauge is a bit easier for me to come by, so that is good news.

Interesting idea. 12-gauge shell, huh? I guess I need to pull out an empty hull. Have lots of 28-gauge, but few 12-gauge shells.

Saber Charger Options

I recently purchased a System Saber III that did not come with a charger, and I would like to know what charger options are available. I am only interested in single-unit chargers, not rack chargers. From searches on the board, I understand that some Saber chargers are also able to charge JEDI batte...

Another choice for 2-meter use (but not for commercial use) is the GP200. It is field-programmable which would save the cost of programming and/or a RIB, cables, and an RSS license. The GP2000 is not as robust as the JEDI radios, but it is as tough as the amateur Yaesu and ICOM radios.

My everyday radio is a VHF EX600XLS. As someone who carried an HT-1000 for over three years, the EX-series is both a blessing and a curse. The good things: 1) The battery life of the EX600 is impressive. I had to charge my HT-1000 every day at the end of a shift, and the EX600 often goes three days ...

If you use the access point where the 14290 harness (the wire harness that routes along the radiator support and the fender shotguns, connecting to the 12B637 engine harness) enters the passenger compartment (via what Ford calls the "dash panel" and everyone else calls the "firewall&q...

As an embedded hardware engineer, this discussion is interesting. I think that although the proposed swap from the 6800-series to the 68000-series is possible, it is extremely unlikely due to its difficulty. Here is a short list of issues. 1) The 68000-series are 32-bit (data and address register) p...
