Also keep in mind that if for some reason you aren't granted a voice channel, you won't have any way of knowing you aren't transmitting on the trunked system.

On a properly designed system the odds aren't very high, but still something to keep in mind.

If you have the regular HT750/1250/1550 CPS, it is a very easy "hack" to make it support the GP328 radio. Do some searching around on here and you'll find it really quickly. IIRC, it is just a quick registry entry edit.

MCX1000 Scan Question

Hey guys; I'm programming up an MCX1000 and have a quick question about scanning.

In the "Zone Data" screen, it asks for a "Scan Type" of either X, R, T, 1 or 2. I'm going to make the assumption that T = Tone Scan, and 1/2 are Priority Scan. But, what are X and R?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't a Type IIi radio work on a Type I system? There's a Type IIi hybrid system near me that has a mix of Type I only radios (MTX800s) and Type IIi (MCS2000s), so could you not just program it up as a Type IIi system, but only use fleet/subfleets instead of talkgroups?

Are you authorized on the system? Reason I ask this is because on an XTS5000 radio, even if the system is a SmartNet system, the radio will still require an affiliation to hear anything. Just a suggestion based on personal experience. I would either go with CSQ or PL, NOT DPL. DPL works great, but I've found that when you're in a fringe area, DPL often fails to unmute the audio whereas PL works great every time.

Naw, tried the shift key but it didn't work (no surprise). I assume the reason they'd use an ID of 0 is so the radio wouldn't be successful at affiliating, nor would it ever get inhibited (to my knowledge, there's no way to send a command to a Radio ID of "0").

Hey guys, here's an interesting one for you. I took a look at a friend's MCS2000 (800MHz). Its Radio ID was programmed as "0". He didn't program it, rather he had a 2-way shop do it for him. I know the Maxtrac and GTX radios would take 700000 as a radio ID, but I've never heard of an MCS20...

On radios like the Astro Saber and XTS3000, you can program both positions on the concentric switch to be TX Inhibit. You can't do that on the 5k however. That's only really an issue on 800MHz. If it's a VHF or UHF system, you can always program bogus frequency information in the TX fields for both ...

Astro Depot works just fine as well. Contrary to what some believe, you do not need an s record, a codeplug will work just fine.
