Our sheriff's department used to have powercalls in some of their old cars. It was a really funny site to see a chevy malibu running bubble gum lights with a powercall siren going :o .

I'll have to put my vote of confidence in for the MT1000 as well. I have 2 of them - 16 channel vhf and a 16 channel uhf. They both work very well. They are bricks, but they are dependable. I use mine in Police & EMA service.

again, the MTX8000 is NOT a public safety radio ...Whoever sold them to you did a bad thing if they were going to be used on a PS system. The MTX8000 is a Privacy Plus radio intended for use on Privacy Plus trunked systems. It doesn't support all the APCO-16 features of Smartnet nor is type accepte...

I hope the MTX8000's can be re-banded. We have about 30 of them in use on our PS Smartnet system in our office alone. They were sold to us in 1995.

Our freqs are below 861. However, we do have a couple of conventional mutual aid repeaters on 866 Mhz.

Is this the Motorola "Suitcase" repeater? Our police dept supposedly had one in the back of a chevy celebrity unmarked car in the 1980's and early 1990's in case the repeaters went off the air. The idea was to position this car at the top of the mountain near the tower site and at least pr...

One big problem is that most Motorola shops just dump 16 frequencies into these things and have NO idea how to set anyhting else like.... AUTO POWER that makes you TX at 1/2 watt most of the time SCAN SETTINGS that make the radio sound like crap COMPANDER / EXPANDER that makes the radio sound like ...

Opinions needed on CDM series

We were quoted CDM 1250 VHF & UHF mobiles for our vehicles. I have read several posts on this board where you guys have had problems with them. Do they have a lot of problems - more than normally found with radios in widespread use? I don't want to buy more headaches.

Thanks!

That's either a ......., or a SouthernLink radio, which is iDen digital. Hunstville / Madison County has a bretty decent smartnet system. SoLink is still going strong in a lot of areas. Right, Bob, that is in fact a Southern Linc Iden Mobile. Our Police Dept does run the Analog MCS2000's whick look...

We used quick call I to activate our outdoor warning sirens before converting the last one over to MOSCAD in 2001. We also used a rather large console hooked up to big speakers on church buildings, schools, and water tanks. It was called an Altec Giant Voice system. It was installed in 1965 and cost...

Looks good so far. I'd keep the Southern Linc mobiles for better coverage than the handhelds in or out of a converta-com could provide. I've had problems with my Southern Linc mobile losing signal BEFORE my handheld! The tomar stuff is nice, but I would look at the current Whelen LED offerings and ...

With the ICOM radio one important thing to do is to turn the time out timer on set for around 1 minute, especially if running high power. The Pa's in those radios are notorious for crapping out . Mike Thanks for the advice! I've been wanting a new radio  Seriously, I think we will program in t...

Install opinions - Radios/Lights in EMA vehicles

We are planning on doing some equipment installs on some of our vehicles at work. Specifically, we need to add 1 VHF, 1 UHF, and 1 800 Smartnet II mobile to the vehicles as well as lights, PA/Siren, and corner strobes. The vehicles are: 2001 Silverado Ext Cab pickup and 2004 Chevy Trailblazer. Both ...
