Not overly happy with the audio on the "stock" 1 watt speaker in my APX6000XE portables.... Liking the looks of the 3 watt speakers found in APX8000 Portables... has anyone tried replacing just the speaker? I know the 3 watt speaker is an upgraded option on a 6000, just not sure if it come...

nope, however, I tried cloning another codeplug to it, but didn't notice it had a slight difference and didn't take, and then tried again for sh*ts and grins and its working, not locking up..... :-\

I noticed this last weekend that NASCAR Officials are starting to carry EX-600s, they still have a bunch of HT1250s and CP200s. But the more important officials carry a EX-600, with a surveillance kit. So the front speaker audio is not so paramount.

We used to run Kenwood TK-790s in our ambulances until we got free Motorola XTL 5000s with W7 heads from the State. Personally I like both of them, for what we use(d) them for. If I were to start from scratch, I would probably go with the Kenwood, $$$.
