Thanks Circlebat, You can't just hook the Peltor headset to the Motorola radio, the main reason is the Peltor headset uses dynamic microphones which have a very low output level. Peltor supplies an adapter for many radios which has a PTT button on it and a circuit board to adapt the microphone level...

Silicon tends to have a short effective lifetime in my experience. A polyurethane sealant would likely work better, but you would never get the case apart again. I believe I found the post that you are talking about from June of 2010.
In my minds eye I think the equalization is set to max attenuation above 3khz in the MTRs and I never gave this any thought. I'll work on this and post my findings.

Check to see if MDC signalling is enabled on receive. If so there is a parameter called DOS (Data Operated Squelch), its there to keep the squelch closed on systems with the PTT ID at the beginning of the transmission.
