RJ11 6 pin plug mic with RJ45 8/10 pin sockets

I have a 6 pin RJ11 Motorola mic.

I know I can use an 8 pin RJ45 mic plug with a radio 10 pin mic socket (as the pins line up excluding to 2 outer pins on the 10 pin RJ45 socket which are not used or not applicable).

So can I use a 6 pin RJ11 mic plug with a 8/10 pin RJ45 radio socket?

I don't have the mic in front of me at the moment...but I'm thinking that the RJ11 plug is physically much smaller than an RJ45 so I suspect you can't just plug an RJ11 into a RJ45 socket and hope that everything lines up..except obviously the 4 outer pins on both side of the socket?

What radios actually used 6 pin RJ11 mics...are they all old "Maxtrac" types (although Maxtracs use 8 pins I think ) or do some newer radios use 6 pin RJ11's? I know the Euro MC Micro /M110 used 6 pins.

Yeah.. no don't do that. It won't fit and will damage the connector.

The Maxtracs were 8 pin, the only one I remember with a 6 pin jack was the Mostar, but I suppose there may have been others.

Not to mention, the wiring and pin assignments are different.

Just because you have a mic where the connector will fit into the radio you have, that doesn't mean you won't do damage to the radio and the mic.

Best to obtain the correct mic that goes with the radio you have. In other words, get with the program and think this through before you regret what your thinking about doing.

Tell the group here what you have for a radio and someone should be able to let you know what mic will work with it.

I just bought the 6 pin mics to add to my collection...they were brand new and I was assuming that they were 8 pin type...but they were only a few $ each so I could not resist!! I have a big "collection" of Motorola radios (and mics) so the 6 pin mics are not a problem ...and no I would never plug an unknown mic into any radio without checking...even some "identical" looking Motorola mics are wired differently...as with the HF Mobat radios ...but I assume Maxtrac, MCS2000, LCS, GTX, GM and CDM radios are all interchangeable...both the white and black type.

We are telling you that the assumption on your part is not correct, and may cause serious damage to the radios or microphones.
