Hello:
A good topic to review:
http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.php?t=35702
Both Motorola Ribs are A-OK, and will program just
about any Motorola Radio and is a great start if
you desire a stable program platform.
Many chose the Motorola Rib due to the "Quality" of the
Componets used, like the DB25 and DB15 connecotrs
made by AMP, the Heavy Duty 9 Volt DC Power Block,
and if you look close you will find the AMP Connectors
are "Secured" to the PC board with Stainless Steel
Hardware ( Only in the B versions ) along with a "Sealed"
ON/OFF C-K Switch that is completely enclosed to prevent
Dust contamination and intermittent operation
Note: You will find Motorola did away with the Stainless Steel
Hardware in the E Series Rib ( not a good idea ) as I have found
persons who due a lot of Connecting / Disconnecting of the program Cables will eventully have trouble with the header
breaking away from the PC board.
The Cable Extender Dongle is REQUIRED if you have a E Series
Rib
All Motorola Rib Boxes go though a number of Performance
test ( to insure all stages work ) along with over 5 Quality
Control stations.........No room for error here.
They are also HIghly Recommended for these later
model radios for the above reasons to aid in the prevention
of a Code Plug or Radio failure
The RLN4008B has been around for over 14 Years
and is a proven perfomer ! In the event you have
a Bad Cable, blow out a diode or 2, they "Can Be Repaired "
======================================
======================================
The RLN4008E is still a good Rib Box, BUT they are almost
next to impossible to repair in the event of a problem
they may develope inside them.
I think we bought the very last of the RLN4008B's before
they came out with the E series, and I sell them off to friends
and associates from time to time

Yes, if you are speaking about the close proximity
of the parts in the SMC Rib, they are pretty close.
