Can Someone Explain to a First Timer About Programming?

Post by RangerWreck »

Hi guys, I picked up a cheap pair for UHF HT750s.

I don't have the CPS software, programming cable, or battery chargers for them.

What will I need to program them? First off the cable, which I can make. Then I'd need the CPS software, right? How about a codeplug? Does it come with the software, or can I use the one on the radio right now?

HI;

If you want a Honest Opinion ?

I would just take ( or send ) your radios to
a qualified person and have them take the
responsibility of reprogramming them.

OR

There are two approches:

One is to get all the Software ( which is almost impossible )
to get from Motorola and is expensive ( about 300.00 ) and
the Suitable Hardware......

Two thoughts here.....You can either go the Factory Rib ( highly
recommended ) and that will cost you about 250.00 OR you
can go with a Ribless Cable ( and those are about 100.00 )

Truly, either set up is OK, but if you change radios, your ribless
cable becomes worthless to you....If you have a Rib Box you can
then program just about any Motorola raido alive.

===========================================

But, many just can't afford the price and or the time it takes,
and some just go out and try and find pirate software ( which
is something I really do not recomend since there are so many
revisions ) and then either buy a Cheap Rib and I have seen
them as cheap as 19.95 and average is about 125.00.

If you have a Old Mic you can canablize it for the Mic Housing
and build a suitable clone if you are savvy at constrction.

But, that is how I am sure many persons go about trying
to get around the cost.

============================================

Tech Tip:

With these "Cheap China Ribs " and other Cheap Clones and
Ribless Cables, I am seeing more and more laptops take a dive
and some even emitting smoke from the sides due to shorts in
these cables and Ribs.

I WOULD NOT risk a High-End Laptop on one of these 20.00 ~ 100.00 so called accessory Ribless Cables or Clone Rib Boxes .But the Risk is yours to take.

One thing to check is how they are made, and one should
take the DB9 Connector apart, and see how well its made.

If its made like the one on the Left, RUN and throw it into the
trash.
