Fed Ex Warning about Radio Shipping !

Post by Monty »

Hello:

This is for general information if you should you
get a " Request " to use a Fed Ex Shipper Number
( other than your own ) to be used in order to
get a radio or products Shipped.

Case in point:

I had a customer who wanted and paid for some
items via CC @ Paypal. One was a GM300 Series
Radio and some programming hardware.

The fellow was very anxious to have this shipped
the very same or following day if possible.

All looked A-OK at first. The person and I made a deal,
and he he requested that I use "His Fed Ex Account Number"

I thought OK, sounds reasonable, called Fed Ex, and I
learned some very interestings things.

This deal got Interupted due to Fed Ex Not Willing to
" Disclose who the Shipper Number belong to "
AND
since this transaction was handled through Paypal , their
Requirements to Honor the Transaction Mandates some
Proof of Signed Delievry.

In the event the Fed Ex Account Number did not belong
to the person making the purchase, one would be out the
loss of the Radios as well as being " Charged for Shipping"
in the event the Account did not belong to the person
receiving the package........

The Problem:

The Fed Ex Account number could belong to " Anyone "
and as such, Paypal has the option of doing what is
called a Chargeback, and in the event the Recipient
does not have the correct Account number, you will
learn about the hassles in dealing with this type of
transaction

A real loop hole in the system, so be forwarned.

To help settle the issue, I offered to use " Express Mail"
and even pay for the shipping so long as I could have a
" Signed Proof of Delivery " and this was turned down.

Once this offer was turned down, the warning lights
and whisles really turned on !!

This I felt this was very abnomal....So be forwarned about
using someones elses " Shipper Number " if you plan on a
Radio Transaction....

You may be out the loss of a Radio, and a Fed Ex Shipping Bill.

I had this same issue show up about 3 years ago, and
unfortunitley I got stuck with a 150.00 shipping bill
since it went Fed Ex Red to a location outside the US and
I checked the box guarateed payment.

I would use "EXTREAM CAUTION" when being requested
to ship / sell / return radio gear uising someone elses Fed Ex Account number unles you can varify the Account belongs to the person.

Paypal WILL NOT HONOR transactions unless you have some
sort of Proof ( signed by the receiver ) and since Fed Ex WILL
NOT disclose any inofrmation about a Fed Ex Number, you could
be headed for a real nightmare.

In my earlier case:

Since the " Account Number " belonged to someone eles,
they "Refused" to pay for the Bill since it was not shipped
to them ! I got stuck with the shipping costs.

I learned my lesson the 1st time.

Doug's FedEX account worked just fine.

I did have one problem years ago with a radio I shipped Fed EX to Canada, Fed EX came after me for a Canada custome fee. I reffered Fed EX to the recipiant. Fed Ex still charged me $47 on a $100 800 Spectra??!!. I never got the money from Mr. Bill.

ooooo

yes... you MUST check "FEES PAID BY RECIPIENT" in the airbill or you are SOL...

but monty is right - if you don't know them (or they don't have a business or something) taking a fedex acct # is shady.... especially if you factor in paypal

oh will - you sent those radios back express econ... instead of ground... OUCH!!!!
