I may be mistaken...I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong....but I believe the EX500 & EX600 are expert series(part of the Waris gang), and if I remember right the minnow series was the CT150, 250, and CT450. The Guppy series is the CP150, CP200.

Don't forget the P500, the HT600E, and the HT800 for the genesis series. There's also the MTX, looks like a MTX800 or the MTX810.

HT200/HT220

Post by Cowthief »

Hello.

The HT200 series includes the PT200, PT300 and Pageboy I and II (Bellboy).
The HT220 series, likewise, PT400.
The MX-3xx series, PT500.

Note; the PT series are the "lunchbox" radios.
After the PT500, the radios are portables, with or without an amp.
The talkie can and is removed for programming.
My box is set up for the JT-1000 series.
It is not much of an issue to adapt it to another talkie.
The PT500 is sometimes found with a STX inside, this is not factory.

I don't know what "series" these are in, but they probably belong somewhere, even in the unidentified column:

MH10 (plastic, single large board, bigger than HT-600)
MSF5000
MTR2000

GTX on 800 and 900 MHz come in mobile and portable flavors, and the portables are available with and without LCD displays.

I thought the Radius and MaxTrac mobiles were quite similar, and might even include the GM300 radios. This would probably include all the Mxxx series (50, 100, 300, etc).

The GM300 is indeed part of the Radius series. You also forgot the Radius model, belongs in the Radius group, or course! I believe the Maratrac would belong in the Radius group as well. I personally think I would include the Maxtrac in the Radius group, too. Basicly the same radio. Also, a couple more for the "unknown" section. Mocom and Motrac. Wasn't there also a Motran?

I always thought the Maratrac was a Motorola Branded product and not Radius. Maratracs are at least a few years before Radius came along.

Actually, the Radius M400 was the predesessor to the Maratrac. The actual RF deck in a Maratrac is a Radius mobile chassis, with different firmware and more memory to hold more channels. They may not officialy designate it as "Radius", but it is at least a very close cousin.

Anyone mention the Mocom series
Mocom 35
Mocom 10
Mocom 70
Any other Mocoms that anyone can remember, I try to forget these boat anchors.

MCX series
MCX100
MCX90
?

How about the 27 Mhz ones
Mocat ?

The Old old old HT's
MH70

WASN'T THERE A 100 or 200 miliwatt spinoff of the HT220 with out the high power PA called a HT100 that looked like a pager with a telescoping antenna that came out of the center of the radio.

What category do the front programmables like the GP68 and the AP50 go in ?

Post by Hoseman292 »

This is a great idea. I'm hoping once the list is completed and all of the radios are listed chronologically, it would atleast become a STICKY.

I haven't heard of an HT200 in many years. I carried a Pageboy II and a HT200 for years until the MX300 and General Electric PE series portables started appearing at hamfests and were affordable. Now that's going back a few years.

Thanks again for posting.

Hi Y'all,

The Genesis-looking 800/900 radios were called "Classic" - I dunno if they were part of "Genesis" or not. (Same batteries & accessories, tho)

How far back do you want to go ?

There was:

"Deluxe" 1940-49
"Precision Deluxe" (1946-50)
"Research" 1950-57 +-
"Transistor Research Line (Motrac)"
"T-Power"
"Handie Micro Talkie" (1957)
"Dispatcher"
"Transistorized Dispatcher"
"Industrial Dispatcher"
"Airport Dispatcher"
"Business Dispatcher"
"Police Cruiser" (1937-49)
"Police" (1937)
T-69-20A (1940-51)
"Twin-V" (1955-62)
"MP-500 " (Pack set version of MH-10)
"PX-300" and "PX-300S"
"Pulsar" (IMTS)
"Pulsar II, Pulsar III"
All the Mocom #'s

And many more I am forgetting.

Regarding other posts, the PT-400 should be in the HT-200 category. Same boards inside and almost same manufacture dates. Just a few years later (i.e. 1968-73.)

Mother Motorola built a 2m amatuer rig? I never knew that.
Now where do I find one of those....
The Metrum II was a 12 channel crystal controlled mobile
with a high/low power (25/1) switch and offset(s) for repeater
or simplex. They were nearly identical to the marine transciever
except they were Shadow Bronze in color and the Modar was
white. They were a dash mounted unit with a sloping control
panel, front facing speaker and came with the traditional Motrac
snake head microphone.

If I look around through some files, I might be able to find an
advertising brochure c1976. Spectronics (now MDM) sold the
final production run of them in 1978 for around $200 each.

I saw one in like new condition on eBay a few months ago.

An advertising brochure would be cool as hell! I wouldn't ask you to mail it to me, but scanned/e-mailed would be great. And to think, a few years ago, I was wondering why Motorola didn't get into the Ham market. Little did I know....

Don't forget the Mocat CB radios LOL.
They were a good little radio. The model 4009 was
designed for law enforcement. It had two separate
receivers - one specifically crystalled for CB Ch. 9
which had it's own squelch control. When the Ch. 9
switch was on, any emergency traffic would override
the other channel selected by the rotary switch.

Troopers would listen to the truckers on Ch. 19 and if
someone called on Ch. 9, the second receiver would
switch over automatically.

It also had "Extender" which is Motorola's trademark
name for a noise blanker.

Codenames of Motorola Radios

Post by MotoFAN »

Hi all!

Many of you know, that Motorola radios/platforms have codenames. Here, for example, some of them:

- Cosmo
- Genesys
- Jedi
- Kramer
- Lazarus
- Renessance
- Skywalker
- Waris

I do not know all of them, therefore I ask you to help to me expand this list!

Beforehand thanks!
