I found these listed on ebay as "Covert Body-Worn Radios". I have never seen anything like this before, and although they are listed for way outside my price range, i'm curious what they are.

Holy sh*t! That's the DCR3000 (Digital Covert Radio) Also known as the Jackal!

It comes in two flavors; modified XTS3000 with connected 600mAh battery, and one with a separate 1700mAh batt which is worn on the opposite side of the body. There should be a small hand-held control head that allows you to change channels, adjust volume etc. What a find. I've got a PDF of the unit somewhere. I'll post it up when I find it.

I'm curious to see if it uses the same boards (and especially the same secure modules) as a plain vanilla XTS3000.

Yep, I saw some of those live & in person back 11 or 12 years ago when the RCMP was switching onto the Nova Scotia SmartZone Omnilink system at the time. Unfortunately, they handled their own programming, so I didn't get to play with them. I was told they were only capable of 16 talkgroups (I see Mike says 32, so that's probably right), but they used the same RSS as the regular XTS3000...I assume they are compatible with newer CPS, but can't say for a fact.

Still searching for the PDF...if I do have it, it's buried deep on a CDR or old HD somewhere.

I did find this image I saved of it- shows you which connector does what. Pinouts are a different story though.

One of the lady officers I know told me when they did details that required them to wear nice dresses and use the DCR when they first came out the issue of placing them in that scenario was a problem. Motorola's actual suggestion was to gaffer tape them to their back. Later on they came up the harnesses and also "underdress hooks" which I am sure you can guess what those help with.

I know this is a very old topic, but has anyone ever come across more info on the DCR3000 radio? I've got a couple of sets but they don't switch on,there's no clear on/off switch on the control unit and random button presses don't seem to do anything.
