Computer locks up on RR

Post by arlojanis »

My computer is Win 98 2nd edition. Lately it locks up on radio reference.com. Is this a web site problem or a computer problem?

Radio Reference opens up fine for me. You are still rocking Windows 98?

This old computer works so good for programming and it has all of my programs installed. I will keep using it. The lockups have occurred several times lately.

Sounds like a browser problem. What are you running and is it even remotely current?

Try turning off Javascript. A Win98 machine is probably not very powerful by today's standards, and many web sites (especially sites that use discussion forum software) have a distressing tendency to push a ton of Javascript crap out to the client, burning a tremendous amount of CPU for little benefit to the user.
This is my opinion, not Aeroflex's.

I WILL NOT give you proprietary information. I make too much money to jeopardize my job.

I AM NOT the Service department: You want official info, manuals, service info, parts, calibration, etc., contact Aeroflex directly, please.

The easiest thing to do with computer problems is to do a Google search.

In this case, I searched for "windows 98 turn off java" and had this result (among many)

http://www.computerbytesman.com/acctroj/howto.htm

What version of Internet Explorer are you running (top toolbar, click on help, about)? Depending on the version, that page should give you a step-by-step.

Java =/= Javascript

If you are up to IE8, you can try this tutorial.
