Motorola SL300 - Programming Cable standard USB?

Post by g8tzl2004 »

Does the SL300 just use a standard straight thru micro USB cable?

Also can you charge the SL300 using, say, a standard Motorola cell phone micro USB charger?

Thanks

Yep...any standard Micro USB cable works for both programming and charging. I've also charged with a standard AC wall adapter micro USB charger... just make sure the input is sufficient.

OK thanks.

I just did some research and noticed that you can get "charging only" micro USB cables where the data lines are tied...presumably to allow more than the spec 500mA max current!!

This perhaps explains why the last 2 junk sale "generic" USB PSU + standard USB to micro USB cable did not charge my Sony cell phone!!!.....but maybe both chargers were faultyl!!

Does the SL300 require 500mA to charge or more?

Thanks

Google... it's your friend.
Read the spec sheet.

It clearly states 1A (5V)

The spec sheet says that the charger is 5V 1A..but the USB standard spec for maximum current draw is 500mA.

So maybe you need "tied data lines" USB cable to spread the load for 1A charging but it charges at 500mA with a standard "full wired" USB cable...which is what you would need for programming, I guess?

I'm still unsure whether every micro USB cable is identical or some are wired differently for just charging rather than for data transfer and charging!!!

Seriously...you're squabbling over mere single dollars worth of cables. If you're so worried about the correct cables, then buy the correct cables. Your SL300 should have come with the charger cables anyway.

I've not received the radio yet which comes with no accessories or charger!!! The correct cable is overpriced as its just a micro USB. But I like to be 100% certain before I use something out of my junk box..just in case :) Sorry to be a pain but I appreciate your help.

You should have just stated that in the original post...that you don't have the OEM cables. would have saved a lot of trouble.
