900 MHz XTS5000 XTS2500 FPP capable?

Post by n6fnp »

I've seen some 900 MHz XTS radios out there. Can these be set up for FPP for keypad entry of ham band frequencies, or will FPP only
work for the radios specified frequency range and ham frequencies can only be entered via CPS on a computer?

There isn't an XTS5000 for 900 MHz, but there is an XTS2500 which is the handheld that I use. If the radio has FPP enabled, FPP will work only for the radio's specified frequency range. Ham frequencies are entered using a hex-edited version of CPS that opens up the frequency range.

Yes the XTS2500 can be used on 900. The 2500 can be flashed to do FPP. But then it can only do FPP on the commercial frequencies. The CPS has to be hex edited to Ham frequencies. However, if you want the Ham frequencies to be entered by FPP, the firmware has to have a mod done to it. It works just fine!

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering if there was a way to modify the firmware so that FPP would work on the ham
frequencies. Are there any how to instructions on where to find the FPP frequency settings in the firmware?

Yes, the firmware can be modified. To the best of my knowledge this information, including steps to decompile and recompile, have never made it into the wild
