Jamming a GTX LTR codeplug into a GTX P/P...

Post by Jonathan KC8RYW »

In case anyone is wondering, this can be done.

Hack the data from an LTR model in the GTX.DBF and replace it with the serial number and model number of a P/P model.

Hack the GTX.MDF so the P/P model number has the same data as the LTR model. Fix the checksum.

Read the archive of the LTR model (which RSS thinks is a P/P model) in RSS.

Go into clone and write the codeplug to the P/P model. The RSS will let you do it.

The result: a P/P GTX boasting an ERROR 06 on the display along with a constant tone.

Looks like you can't make a P/P model into an LTR model, because of differences in the firmware. It would be nice to be able to, as the LTR models allow you to "hide" the one required trunking personality, while the P/P won't let you.
