Allowable Trbo freqs.

Post by efc »

So.......

Let me get this straight, there are only a set of allowable freqs. for the Trbo system and that
is it? You cannot flash huh. At least that is what the big M says. Thoughts?

My thoughts are that I don't understand what you are trying to say here. Are you trying to transmit on 450.84792 MHz or something?

Indeed...not sure what you are saying? Do you mean the bandsplits, or what?
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Sorry let me explain,

1.852.8375 is a freq. that I want to program into a XPR 6580 as a control channel.

2. When you enter that into the control channel list, it is rejected.

3. The big M says, which they sent me a list, that the radio will not accept that, instead
the software will display 853.0125.

Apparently, talking with them there is no flash upgrade, what you see is what you get,
at least that is what they say.

Thank you

Those are the new NPSPAC channels, only for public safety. Mototrbo's are not for public safety.

Someone might want to tell the Motorola marketing folks this since TRBO is in fact being advertised and sold to small and medium size PS agencies!

As far as OP's question, this information is in the catalog,

Right, I agree, the marketing that we have seen is indeed for P.S. Motorola also
tells me that they have systems in place for P.S., because initially that was my
concern. And thank you Escomm for the list. That is the same one I have.
Glad to at least confirm that with another source. So apparently you cannot
flash upgrade, which I would think that would limit to some extent, their sales,which.......
I would think in this economy would not be a good thing.

Thanks again

Dollars to doughnuts the non-birdy freq limitations are firmware coded like the bandsplit and can probably be removed. Thought I don't know how or if that would impact type acceptance, if that's a concern for you

While I know Motorola is marketing Trbo at p.s. there is literature that states at the bottom that they do not operate in the npspac band, therefore at the moment the 800 analog trunking trbo's are not meant for public safety use. Similar to the mtx8000 as compared to the mts2000. While I have no doubt the hardware is capable of it, they have installed this limitation in the software probably so they can still sell xts's for analog p.s. trunking.

See page 15 of this brochure, at the bottom.

I thought though, that I saw on th NPSPAC site, that they freq. I need was just outside the rebanding, but maybe I
saw wrong when I checked into it.

Thank you

That kind of defeats the purpose of having them for Public Works and the like in places where entire counties are on an NPSPAC system. I think Motorola made a huge mistake here. Who on earth is going to buy a product with an upgrade path to TRBO if it does not work with a current system (as they advertised these 800 TRBO's to be).
I flatulate P25.

True, that is what floors me. Ya know that there are going to be agencies out there that have
been shifted to the rebanding, so why not make a radio that is capable of meeting the
customers needs in light of the changes. Not unless Motorola has a bigger plan that would involve
yet another type, model radio. In the mean time I would think that telling a customer " wait will will have
an option in awhile" would cost customers, but who am I to say. Wel as Bernie would say " that is my two cents"

Thank you
