Need AMP P/Ns for XTL Speaker Connector

Post by MotoFAN »

Hi all!

I am looking for AMP / TE Connectivity P/Ns for XTL Speaker Connector - pins and housing. Digikey P/Ns also will work.

Thanks!

Yes, the exact same. In fact, you can use the same speakers too.

Ok, thanks!

Another question - need compact speaker for XTL. Like is HSN8145, but with factory connector for XTL.

CAUTION: As far back as 2005 time frame I seem to remember something about
Moto issueing either a SRN or some kind of doc (perhaps a stuffer sheet) on using
only the speaker issued with the XTL radios due to the requirement for an 8 ohm
or more speaker. The use of less than an 8 ohm speaker was supposed to be a nono.

Interesting that to this day the service manual calls for a 3.2ohm or greater resistance speaker

Yes, I know about. But HSN8145 should be 8 ohm.

In any case I'm pretty sure that nothing will happened if you will use even 3.2 ohm speaker. Just will rise power output (because P=U^2/R) and harmonic distortions will increase in many times. In theory low impedance load can damage output stage of audio amp, but you need to run it with full output with continues signal or open squelch. But if amp have reserve, nothing will happen (sorry, but I don't know exact specs of transistors/circuit used).

Bingo
Just found one sheet from a 2005 "Options and Accessories Installation: Dash Mount Accessory Installation 6815851H01-0
from 2005 and see Page 3-4 : 3.2.3
External Speaker (HSN4031) Caution: DO NOT use and external speaker which exceeds 7.5W or is below 8 ohm. Use
only with HSN4031_speaker kit.

Guys,

Who knows any not expensive & good crimper for these connectors? Genuine AMP/Tyco tools if I remrember correctly in $300-500 range. It's not acceptable for hobby. But also I prefer to do not use improper tools, like is pliers.

This is what I carry in my field kit. It has a wide range of sizes and fits most applications. You can choose a size to crimp the wire and another size to do the insulation crimp. They are about $50

Platinum Tools 16801 works well and the price was very reasonable.

RFGuy - thank you for posting that good info. I'm gonna see about obtaining one of those crimpers.

It's the same one, not two different. Do not expect it of high quality. It is a tool for prototyping (accordinglty to the Tyco web site). In fact, the tool amateur class.

I am aware that those two pics are of the same tool and it is a lot better than what i have now which is a big zero.

Thank you

I actually had one similar but someone helped themselves to it right out of my shop area.
