Astro Saber II 512K to 1Meg upgrade?

Post by Chrisjz »

Can an AS-II 512k be easily upgraded to a 1meg by replacing the VOCON board? I just purchased an ASII on EBAY and I'm sure it's 512k but I would like to upgrade it in the future. I am new to the AS and any help would be much appreciated... Thanks.

sure it can.

but the question is

WHY ?

if you only need trunking and IMBE, those features are supported on the 512k board without any problems at all.

the only thing the newer firmware gets you are the latest and greatest HOST/DSP upgrades... which in itself (to me) aren't worth it - unless of course you get a steal on a vocon.

i've had a factory IMBE Astro Spectra on VHF for 3 years now.... never a problem.
