XTS5000 Rental Program Cable ( Worthwhile ? )

Post by Monty »

Hello:

Since Motorola is making the XTS5000 / XTS2500 Program
Cable Propriatory to the radio, I am considering a possible
setup for a " Rental Program " for both the Motorola Factory
USB and RS232 Cables.

Due to the unique Expense of the Cables, and the sensitivity
of the radios ( and Computers ) being used, and since the
Clone I have seen so far has not been proven 100% reliable
I thought perhaps a Rental program might be the answer for
some.

I know its NOT for everyone, since once your radio is
programmed, perhaps it may not need anything for some time.

So what do you think ?

If you were in a bind, would you spend:

45.00+ 6.50 S & H for 7~10 Days ?

Rather have a " Exact Clone " of the Original for 175.00 ?

Or, Rather just bite the Bullet and pay the 240.00 for
the Original.

I know these radios are VERY EXPENSIVE, and I would not
just use any cable on them, but sometimes, the price of a
clone cable looks good considering the cost of the RSS and
Computer Set up.

Anyhow, I am looking for ideas from the resident experts who
own XTS5000's / 2500's what they would like to see ( or have )

We are Currently developing a Cable that can be used
" Both " on the USB and Serial Ports, so you would not
have to have 2 Cables in the event you change
computers.......

These would be of the Exact Same Electrical Design, just
built on a Main PC board, and mounted in a small box wwith a switch to select between USB or RS-232

I think that's a pretty good idea actually.

Personally, if I had an XTS5000 that needed programming, for my purposes, it'd be a "program once and forget about it" ordeal, so spending 50 bucks to rent one for a week would be a LOT more attractive than spending close to 300 to buy one.

$240 for a cable!

Motorola makes nice gear, but it's a shame they have to charge ridiculous prices for it.
