Increase Maximum Channels XTS2500

Post by gatekeep »

When using a certain unmentionable software version R7, is it possible to increase the channel count beyond 512 (assuming one has firmware of R12 or beyond)?

Will R07 do anything at all to a radio with FW higher than 7?
The bandsplit is only a suggestion.

Firmware version and codeplug version are two different things.

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

So if I have a radio with let's say R06 firmware and FlashZap it to R16 with no flashkey, the codeplug version won't be upgraded, so it will still be 6, and R07 depot will still work?

Correct, if the radio was last programmed with R06 CPS.

There seems to be some confusion out there as far as codeplug version & firmware version & codeplug structure version goes.

Here is an example: If an XTS5000 has Host R05, and it was last written to with CPS R09 lets say, then the codeplug version will change to 0013 for version R09 CPS, but the Host R06 in the radio won't know what some of the new CPS features in R09 are, so they won't function.

If the radio with said Host R05 is force fed lets say R09 firmware by manually bootstrapping it, and then read with R09 CPS, the max channel field will still remain at 512, and it will not change to the new max of 850 that R09 offered. Other things will also not change, like if it's an 800MHz radio, the rebanding enabled box won't be checked, and little things like that. This is all because when you force feed the firmware, you are basically just erasing the rom, and re-writing it with the new host. The codeplug structure does not get updated.

This also applies to rolling firmware backwards.. If you force feed a R16 host radio a R09 .cvn, you are still left with a version 16 codeplug, that you are not able to read with R09, because the codeplug structure and version didn't change when it was fed the older firmware. So in short, for updating firmware or trying to roll back firmware, the manual bootstrap way is not really as great as it appears. Sure you may gain a feature or 2, but in a nutshell you are cutting a big corner and the radio will lack in other areas. Hopefully some of this makes sense, it's not always the easiest subject to explain and put in perspective..

The XTS 2500 has 1000 channel capability? At what firmware release?

I'm at R16 and my radio says 870...

The 2500 has a max of 870, that was released in R12.

That's what I thought. This is what threw me off:

Simoco, I believe that only applies to the XTS 5000. The XTS 2500 is what we're discussing.

So if i had my radio flashcode upgraded on my 5k and the CPS doesn't register some of the versions in the Radio config screen, I can purchase a firmware upgrade and that should match it all up?

Since when? I bought an XTS2500R from Panter88 on eBay a year ago and it came with 1024 channels. Host/DSP of 14.

That says it all, those radios are not necessarily as shipped from Motorola so consider them modified.

I've no doubt it was modified/hacked at some point but point being it is capable of the channels. I'm sure Motorola has that capability in the radios for some (SP?) reason. I'm sure if you were a customer buying 5,000 of these things, they'd bend the "rules" for you.
