XPR7550 Audio Click/Pop

I just acquired a Motorola XPR7550 and have noticed that anytime sound comes through the speaker there is a noticeable click or pop sound from the speaker. I connected a speaker mic to the radio and the same sound comes out of the speaker mic so this tells me that it's not the speaker in the radio. Firmware version is at R02.50.05.

Does anyone know what may be causing this?

Sounds like a trip to the depot is in order. Or live with it. Most likely an issue with the audio PA or surrounding circuits, and these things are so dense PCB wise these days they are damn near impossible to work on yourself. A trip to the depot would yield a new board in the radio.

Current firmware is R02.06.05.0002. It's remotely possible a firmware upgrade would fix the issue, but I wouldn't bet on it. In reviewing the firmware release notes and searching for the words "click" and "pop", nothing related to this is indicated.

Wish I had better news.

I had a bad feeling that a new board may be in order. Oh well.

Well if you can live with it, then live with it. Personally, I wouldn't let it bother me that much that I felt the need to sink money into it.

Is there any remote possibility it's still under warranty?

While it's your radio, that would not bother me. Now if the TX was 1 watt on hi power, or the radio was very deaf, that would bother me. Not worth losing sleep over. GARY

The fact is, you shouldn't have to "live with it". If the radio is doing that, something is clearly not right. Check to see if the radio is still under warranty and if so, send it in for repair. Out of curiosity, if you can post the 3 letters in the middle of the serial #, we can see if it's still under warranty.

And just to be clear, I'm not slighting you d119. I'm just saying that if there's an issue with it, Motorola should be accountable for repairing it if it's a defect.

Not that is is a guarantee but a lot of firmware updates with the XPR radios deal with audio routing issues. R02.70.xx was expected in November then in January. Now is expected in mid-Feb. I am waiting for a WiFi bug to be dealt with but firmware usually deals with more than one issue. There is a newer version of firmware than you have out there already. I'd suggest trying that for now and, if you can wait, see what R02.70 .xx addresses before sending your radio back.

I agree entirely - IF the unit is under warranty. If it isn't, that means you are paying flat rate out of pocket, and I personally would not do that.
