APX-7000 XE ILLIGAL KEY

Hey Guys
I have a little problem with my APX 7000 XE. I purchased this radio 2 ½ years
Ago and it has worked great. It is used ONLY on the Ham bands, 2M and UHF.
I have a friend who does my programming; he set it with several zones
So I can use FPP and that worked like a champ for the last 2 years.
Well about two weeks ago I was about to fpp program a new Ch, there is no
Password set so I hit OK but my finger slipped and I hit another key not sure
Which one, and then the radio beeps several times and displays
“Illegal Key” I am able to program FPP Ch’s as usual and everything else
On the radio seems to work fine except every time it is powered on
It beeps several times several times and displays “Illegal Key”. After that
All seem ok but when radio is powered off and then on again it
Repeats the beeping and Illegal Key message. I was able to get a local
Radio shop tech to restore a BU’ed code plug to see if that corrected
The problem, it did not.
That is where we stand now, any ideas would greatly appreciated.
APX 7000 xe mod # H49TGD9PW1AN FW R14.51.00
CPS used R14.01.00
Thanks Jim

Check to see if you engaged "secure" mode?

OK I checked and secure was in the off pos, if I turn it on I still get the origional 6 beeps and illegal key message
one time when I power the radio on but now I also get ILLEGAL KEY flashing every 10 sec or so. secure was programed but I haven't used in a long time so that may be a seperate issue.

Delete the key in CPS or turn off secure in CPS. You set a channel for secure.

Hey John

You nailed it, when I fat fingered adding a ch via FPP somehow I changed Conv Personality, secure,
Secure Voice/Signal Type from ASTRO to Securenet changed it back and all is well.

Many,Many Thanks
