Requirements to do AES + ADP in an APX8000 w/ KVL4000?

Post by Vizwar »

Trying to get both ADP and AES to work in an APX8000. The 8k has hardware encryption for AES and works fine. If I toggle the radio back to software encryption the ADP works fine.

What options and in which hardware do I need in order to do ADP when hardware encryption is active? The KVL4000 currently doesn't provide an option to create an ADP key; only AES and DES.

Thank you!

As I understand it you need ADP loaded into the mace as a hardware encryption algorithm not software. Can’t run software and hardware encryption simultaneously as I understand it.

Additionally you’ll need the ADP algo loaded into the KVL4k as a optional algorithm if Moto will still do it. Unsure of that since the kvl5000 is out.

Hope this helps,

M still supports the KVL4000. You can buy the ADP upgrade. You need an older Windows PC to connect the PDA to (and the PDA to computer cable). Windows 8.1 will work and I assume windows 7 will as well, 10 doesn't seem to. I think it's a "cheap" upgrade to get ADP though - like probably less than $500 in total - to get the feature added. Won't break the bank. The APX's all mostly come with ADP, however, that's changing because of an issue with grant funded purchases of subscribers which Motorola can't include ADP with anymore.

You can use Windows 10 with a KVL4000, you just can't use the installer package. I did an update today. The workaround is really easy.

Connect to KVL using Windows Mobile Device Center
Go to connect without setting up
Go to file management
Browse to program files/kvl/upgrade

Browse disk you receive with the flash upgrade
copy the .bin_module file to the folder listed above

Connect KVL4000 back to security adapter. It will automatically ask if you want to load upgrades. Click yes and you are ready to complete the flash.

Encryption upgrades are serialized to the KVL at order so the serial number of the upgrade and KVL have to match.

I just recently did quite a few of them and that is how I perform the Windows 10 workaround with no issues.
