I need to install two XTL radios, remote mount 05/M5 heads, in a 2014 Toyota 4Runner.
Has anyone done this in a same or similar model year? I'm mainly looking for some creative inspiration on where to mount the heads. Obstructing cup holds won't be acceptable... A center console change out would be okay but I don't think anyone makes those for the 4Runner.
Thanks

Re: 2014 Toyota 4Runner
no one makes anything for the Runner....(that I have seen) I have an 97 and it just gets worse every year.... I don't like to say it but when it comes time to replace it I will have to go the Chevy Tahoe route... I like to play radio... and sadly there just isn't enough room for any kind of sizeable install. I'm not a Chevy guy.. but I am being forced, I just hope Chevy has their act together. The Tahoe is bigger.. I can pull all my toys and wont even know that they are back there. Most if not all FD, PD, EMS all use the Tahoe's or something similar so getting any radio install question answered will not be a problem. I held out as long as I could.
Best of luck man..

Re: 2014 Toyota 4Runner
I currently own a Toyota tundra 2012 model. I use a pro clip to attach to the console as well as a RAM mount to hold the control head for a Motorola ATX 7500. I have also used the same amount to hold Control is provided a Motorola XTL 5000 and XT cleaner XTL 2500 at the same. I would be more than happy to send you pictures of my current set up. However I did not have any pictures of my previous set up. The RAM mount was a 1.5 inch ball with a short connector and 3 x 11 ram plate.

Re: 2014 Toyota 4Runner
Vizwar, I've got no direct experience with Toyotas, but I do a lot of installs on Chevy, Ford, and Dodge cars and trucks. One of the major sources of information and ideas for me on installs is http://www.elightbars.org While the name implies lights and sirens, radios are an essential part of every build and they know their game exceedingly well.Vizwar wrote:I need to install two XTL radios, remote mount 05/M5 heads, in a 2014 Toyota 4Runner.

I suggest that you might check with some of those guys and girls over there.
Good luck!

Hi,
I have great luck with the "No Holes" style Ram Mount plate in front of the front passenter seat and them using an articulated Ram Mount arm. My typical set up is an Icom control head, Pro-197 digital scanner and Yaesu FT-7800 control head. I have used this same set up in both a 2010 Tundra and in a 2013 4Runner. It is very easy for the driver or passenger to use, allows for easy reconfiguration if necessary, leaves no holes (not that we care about that) and most importantly, keeps the equipment usable and stable, even on extended off road trips.
