XTL 5000 05 Head / Siren install help

Post by cidcop »

HELP !
I have a XTL5000 with 05 remote head that I am trying to add siren to.
Here is the set up:HLN1439C Siren, HKN4363C siren cable to DB25 radio, HKN6189B control head to DEK cable; HLN1241C DEK.
The software is set up like I have done Astro Spectras in the past.
Radio comes up with "Wail" and Wail DEK light is on.
I am at a loss ........totally!!!
I need to get this unit on the road by next Tuesday, the 7th.
HELP, Please

So what is the problem? Wail is the default tone would be my guess.

The buttons don't work and siren won't function.
No PA either

Perhaps a programming error but without having access to your codeplug no idea what might be wrong. Physical setup sounds correct.

Moto system manager looked at codeplug and didn't see anything wrong but we both could be missing something.
Going to swap heads tomorrow just in case..........

Try a different dek if you haven't. Assuming you have the dek turned on and programmed for all the appropriate siren buttons and the siren feature itself is enabled it should work. If not then a hardware failure I would presume. Not some ancient firmware in it??

The DEK is on in the software, all siren buttons selected in order, SirenPA enabled, most current firmware in radio.
Have another DEK due to be delivered tomorrow - cross fingers that is the problem!

I went ahead and played with a codeplug. It has fail safes in place so I doubt the programming is the issue. (ie invalid fields)

Definitely look at hardware, DEK box, siren amp and siren cable.

What about the firmware in the control head....does that match the firmware in the radio?

Firmware didn't match, now it does but no improvement.
Still doesn't function.
Expect to change out DEK tomorrow.

The new DEK 1241D fixed it! Old one is in the trash.
Everything working and vehicle goes into service tonight!
Thanks

Good to hear....issues could have been that it was toast or the revision, C versus D. I would have tried the C on an astro spectra (if you had a setup available) just to double check before tossing it.
