Motorola Radius CM300

Post by Josh »

I know we've talked about it here before, but has anyone messed around with one of these radios and know exactly what it's MDC1200 capabilities are? I'm considering getting rid of my M1225 if the CM300 can make sel-calls, call-alerts, etc.

If not, then phooey with it.

How about a comparison between the GM300 and CM300? I like my GM300, but then again I may like the CM300 more...if it receives and sounds the same ;)

I just set up a CM300 uhf for the first time and it is interesting. It decodes MDC ids and allows you to change pls and dpls through the menu on the radio. Even at the lowest settings the audio tones are loud. It has a variable backlight setting which is nice. I think for a small speaker it sounds good. It has an s meter also. Good luck. Bill.

It looks like MDC emergency is not on the list, likely because the companion CP portables do not have a button for this either. But it has a lot of other MDC functions.

It also has some hands free accessories available.

Are you saying this radio has a selectable PL feature, as in a med radio doing 8 different PL's?

It says that you can edit pl/dpl codes for a select channel. It looks like either TX or RX can be changed. You scroll through the list or enter the digits directly from the optional DTMF mike (which came incorrectly wired from the big M) It uses the same programming cable as the Maxtrac. Bill.

Wow, it sounds like I'm going to go after one of those!

I was considering a CDM1550- but the CM300 costs less new than the CDM costs used (eBay).

I've always liked the M1225- But without MDC operation, it's useless to me, where the GM300 doesn't have a nice display but does what I need it to.

Thanks for the info.

Here's another question....

How many channels can the CM300 scan at once? Does it scan faster than the MaxTrac300 of 32 channels?

the CM300 will scan 16 channels per list... only one list may be assigned to a particular channel...the list members can be changed via the user interface, but the list assigment per channel can only be changed in the CPS

Does it do the user/user priority, and RSS programmed scan/priority scan like the Radius, maxtrac and GM300 radios do? I guess that's fairly important too.

I've seen them on eBay new for $400, so I assume that they probably retail at that price or less, some auctions claim that they accept trade-in GM300s and M1225s but I'm sure that's a big rip-off, but for $400- you get a lot of radio! It's like the Radius version of the CDM1250....or as I see it as a combination of the M1225 and GM300 radios.

I likes it! I didn't think I would until I read the features.

I just got my RSS for the CP200/CM300 ect... Make sure you change the program to "Expert" mode instead of "Simple" mode.

You have access to alot more features like And/Or Sqelch, MDC, DTMF, QCII settings and ect.

The RSS also lets you print a customer basic handout explaining the button and knob functions, the channel list, and it looks very professional. I think its set up alot better than PRO series CPS for CDM's and HT's.

I will try and post some screen shots and a pic of the customer handout.

Flap

Post by Nand »

It is definitely an impressive little radio other than that dumb flap that doesn’t like to stay closed over the speaker mic sockets.

That flap and the mic connector on the CP200 I think will be the major issues with the radio. I have one that I've been playing with for a couple of weeks and it's a pretty durable radio. Unlike some radios of recent history it doesn't feel "cheap" when using it. For the scale of radio it's pretty well set up for features and options and like MM911 stated the CPS is easy to navigate and work with. Maybe there is hope for Motorola yet....

Has anyone else noticed a "Pop" noise at the beginning of any radio traffic? I am programming one for a friend and he asked if I could get rid of that. Any settings I can tinker with? I told him I didnt think I could remove the "Pop", but I would try.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

Nick

Not knowing what causes the pop is I am not really able to give a good solution. I would try to use the MDC DOS to hold off on opening the squelch for perhaps 50 msec.

Another thing to try is to switch the CPS to "expert" mode and changing the mute/unmute rules. I have found the CP150/200 radios have a hard squelch crash if you leave the rule at the factory default & are using PL/DPL through a repeater.

Wavetar

What would u switch the Mute/Unmute rules to?

This is happening on every channel. At first I thought it may be the radio, but a few other people are having the same problem.

Thanks!
