HT1250 - Continuous Rotary Knob

Is it possible to make a HT1250 have a continuous rotary knob, similiar to like a Kenwood TK280 or other portable?

I was playin around in CPS and noticed a setting for it and was just wondering how to do this.

No. Don't do that. On a Jedi radio, you have to disassemble the channel knob and remove a piece that stops it from being continuous rotary. I don't see why this wouldn't physically work on the Waris series (heck, it's probably the same switch), but I just don't know about the electronics.

The HT1250LS (trunking) has the continuous rotating knob. The HT1250 conventional radio has a 16 position knob. There are differences in how these knobs are used between the two radios... On the LS, the knob is the zone selector and can be used to scroll the menus, on the conventional it is strictly the channel selector.

Both are mentioned in the software because both radios can be programmed with the same software package.

A similar question...
I've got the LS version. The book I have is for the NON LS version, so I need to know :
*can you program all 128 channels all conventional?
*will you be able to select them with the knob by just turning it continuously, or ...
*Will you need to assign them to 16ch zones and then select the zone and channel with the knob and a soft-button?

I really just want rid of this darn radio, in trade (or cash to buy) for a VHF version. I bought it, not knowing

A] it wouldn't do QCII and
B] I would be moving back to an ALL VHF State.

The 1550 is nice, but more than I need or can afford.
Now, if M would make an XTR9999xyz that does VHF conventional, VHF Digital, and P-25 800 digi, I'd be set!

I have a nice man who may trade me a decent LB setup for it... so I can get on 6m and that will be ok too.

To answer all your questions: No, 16 conventional channels only.

Whats wierd is with the 16 conventional channels, no MDC capablity. The 1250*LS+ will let you put in 18 personalities, but only 16 conventional zone assignments.

To further answer your questions: The rotary knob will just select zones, the channels must be selected using the buttons on the front of the radio. A work-around for this is assign each of the 16 conventional personalities to their own zone (one personality per zone, zone name same as channel name), that way the knob appears to be changing channels.

When our purchasing dept let a salesman talk them into buying a boxload of LS's, folks kept bringing them to me saying their brand new 'walky-talky' was broke... the channel selector wouldn't change the channel. It was easier to 'fix' the radio than teach the user.

Having conventional capability in these radios appears to be a backward compatability thing. They are designed, primarily, for use on a trunking system.

The new PR400 will do 64 channels in the full keypad model and do MDC1200, QC-II and DTMF PTT-ID, selcall and call alert. Even will do alpha tag and user programmable PL/DPL lists. 146-174 MHz bandwidth, 5 watts. Lists for $741

OK, thanks. My first impression was Looks Cheesy... then read the description, and IS cheesy/entry level...
Besides the ability to ENCODE QCII what's the diff between it and an HT1250? What makes it 741 bucks? Looks like an FRS.
