Trouble In Iraq
Dear Motorola Users:
I am a US govt. Contractor in Iraq and I need some help. We are radio novices and are using the GM 660. Some of our bright Iraqi drivers were mashing buttons on the keypad and a codeplugerror appears on the screen.
How do we get rid of it and have commo again?!
Also, what does it mean by dumping a code plug into the radio? We were reading posts trying to find out what that means.
If you can help us ASAP, we would appreciate it dearly.
Thanks!!!!!!!!

I've had reports from people that you've been asking the same question to users via PM.
I ask that they don't respond in private, but respond on the board.
Please do not continue this practice.
There's no reason to use PM's to get the answers you need. Asking here will yeild the answer to your question quicker.

I understand. However, people get annoyed quckly when they see PM's from random people they don't know, and then out of their annoyance, you don't get anywhere. Hopefully, someone will be able to help you with your question. There have been serveral posts here before, you might want to do searches or 1250, 1550 - as those are the US versions of the productus you probably have. This has been discussed, and your answer might be hiding somewhere in the threads.

First, THANKS Alex.
Second, I am not aware of ANY WAY you can "mash buttons" and yield an error resulting in a displayed code, AND a non-functional radio.
Nor have I ever seen ANY error message on any radio read "Codeplugerror"
To answer some of the questions,
The Codeplug is the "file" containing all the radio's programmed information.
To "dump" is radio slang for program, or write to or download.

I would be leery providing information to someone such as this. There's the possibility that this individual could have obtained a US radio or what not, and is unable to figure out how to work it, and turns to us for help, only to use it against friendly forces.
Maybe it's all those intel breifings in the USAF, but that was the first thing to run through my head when I read that. The most benign questions can often be the pieces to a larger puzzle.

If in fact you are what you say you are, and I doubt it, you need to contact your U.S. Military liason who will then have your LMR manager take care of the problem.

I would report this entire thread to your local law enforcement agency who then could forward to the local regional FBI office. This raises high suspiscious with me and personally I would not respond to any of this other than stated. I agree with the above reply, the US military does not need our advise as they have very well educated resources to solve their problem. Again , I would advise to report this immediately.
The only radio is a Motorola Radio!!
Iraq
My guess is it's just a quack, wanting attention, or someone who has a bad radio and thought patriotism may get some help with few questions. I find it hard to accept that an official can not get all the help they need with a few questions to the right people they should already have on speed dial.

I guess it could be a contractor in Iraq, but I don't know of any button on the face of radio that will do what he is saying.
My money is on someone who knows that they can get some thing going with the people like medic4145, c17loadsmasher and others. You guys play right into the trolls hands and they will keep on doing it. We all do it, just look at old CowTipper.

Iraqi problem
My first instinct is to forward the original post to the FBI and let them sort it out.
very very fishy to me...
IMHO
Just doesn't sound right, why would a contractor contact a message board? Why not the vendor or home office?
2-way radios & cellphones are the favorite means of setting off IEDs over there. (improvised explosive device).
If it is legit... the feebs can steer him to a solution
if it isnt ... then we helped our country.
I say better safe than sorry... forward it over to the Feebs.

I have talked to a few people that have had contracts in Iraq ranging from computer geeks to welders to engineers.
If, indeed, you are a US Govt contractor in iraq, can you not afford professional radio support? From what government contracts seem to pay for that kind of work, I would think you could.
Anyhow, 10-95 is correct. You need to contact your mil liason, et cetera. If someone in the J6 can't help you with your radio, you need to have your company buy different radios...
Also, I don't know how a codeplug can be corrupted from the front panel. Perhaps the problem doesn't have anything to do with your Iraqi drivers, but instead with the radio itself.
It's not that I don't trust you, I just don't trust anyone... If you wished to PM me with your Name, Title, Company Name, and the address/tel number of your company here stateside, I'd be more than happy to call the company here in the US and advise them of what radios would better suite your needs in Iraq.
Regards,
John

I'm in agreeance with most the people in this thread. For the time being, it's locked.
