How to get trunking info'
Moderator: Queue Moderator
Hello.
A while back I discovered that drug dealers have trunking radios, my question was, how, and who was programming them?.
The answer was a shock, it seems that some are copied by students at school, you see, most schools now have police departments, with radios, but will not work with regular police, so the guys buy the radios themselves, kids get the radios for a while and copy the controller.
The other way, the press has something working where they get radios programmed.
I talked to sheriff Ralph Lopez about this, handed him my unauth but working STX, he told me to talk to Robert Adelman, this has gone nowhere, my guess, San Antonio, Bexar, Texas knows about this, perhaps gave up.
Perhaps ask a drug dealer for the system code/config info?.

The answer isn't mysterious at all. Trunked system data is READILY available on the 'net.
http://www.trunkedradio.net is the biggest repository of system data that I am aware of.
"Enhanced" (lab or depot) versions of the radio software is in common circulation. Even the system key generator program leaked out and has turned up from time to time.
The STX is a favored radio to use as a scanner because the lab version of the software is so common that even service shops use it and nobody seems to care. That software doesn't require a system key, and it's easy to adjust or modify an STX so it doesn't transmit which makes it a pretty safe radio to work with once it's been tweaked that way.
Getting a radio programmed any way you want it is pretty much a matter of deciding to spend a little money and do a little searching on the 'net, nothing more.
Drug dealers with trunked radios, though...I'd bet that some of those radios are stolen from the department they're trying to hear. But the police are wise to this and use the radio's remote monitoring feature to collect evidence! Also, they use radios in other bands and sometime randomly chosen frequencies when doing drug ops. Encryption is nice, too.
Hey...there's an idea! Maybe I can sell a pile of encrypted VHF Sabers (with a keyloader) to my local sheriff's department for drug ops. Make some money and do a good deed at the same time!

Wait till SA goes to the digital Edacs system
The radios auto affilate with the system and if the radio is " killed " three times it will have to be sent back to the factory to be reset. The system will be a Apco-25 digital with CAI. As far as the press having radios, they will still be furnished with newer and more costly radios to monitor the local fire and PD.

Mike,
It has been found that the easiest way to keep a radio from being "killed" is to program its LID (EDACS) to that of a supervisor. This info is readily available from programs such as Etrunker, Trunker, and now the BC-780. It does not matter what "they" put between the listener and the listeners target, there is always a "way". Nextel is even monitorable. FatBoy.

Sorry, Microwave Mike. That's a load of hooey. MA-COM does NOT offer an APCO-25 compliant solution. NOT ONE. If the system is going to be APCO-25 compliant, it'll either be a Motorola Astro system, or it'll be a multivendor system that may rely upon Racal and RELM field units and Daniels repeaters, but not likely because local governments don't like to deal with multiple vendors for one system.
Or, it's some version of EDACS or ProVoice, and as I said, that's NOT APCO Project 25 compliant by any stretch of the imagination.
Not unless they reversed their policies and created a new system type in the past two weeks, that is. Which I doubt, quite frankly.

Hello again.
Correct, the new system, GE when sold, now something else, and it has not been installed, is NOT APCO 25, in fact, Moto' pointed out that the new system has never been installed anywhere.
GE pointed out that the old system, based on analog GE PE UHF radios with GESTAR ident' "coded comm'" worked well, and was cheaper to run, both in the long run as well as to install.
Moto' said the "new"old system was scanner proof, "nobody with a Radio Shack scanner can listen," this caused John V. Roach, then prez o R/S to declare "war", so much so that there was funding to Standard radio to put out a radio that could transmit, as well as Uniden.
Radio Shack, the same company that lobbied the FCC for laws against scanners for cellular, got pissed.
Carl Stringfellow, please make R/S rage with anger at PCS and cellular.
Thank You.

Hrm. What about Monitoring Nextel? From what I understand (which isn't too much) about the iDen protocol, it's essentially like Smartnet Trunking, except it's packet based digital...On 2001-10-04 18:27, FatBoy wrote:

Buit I'd be curious how to do it, espicially since we use them at both work and were considering getting them at our ambulance for the officers to use...

Hi guys, I have a simple ( I think) question.
If I am interested in monotoring a local trunked system but with a motorola radio, which one is the best to do it with. Can I use an STX radio, and if so are there more than one model radio and do I have to have the specific one or are they all compaitble?
I am not sure yet of the system type but I will have that info tomorrow. I have no intention of talking or having talk ability but I would like to be able to listen and would rather have a motorola radio to do that with rather than a r/s scanner.
Also, Can I enter in multiple systems into one radio such as my county system, the NYC OEM system, etc... Or does it mattrer on the type of radio and such..
ANY info ANY one can give me is much appreciated.
