HT1550XLS Battery issues

HT1550XLS Battery issues
Guess this question is for those who have a 1550: I have two batts. One is Intrinsically Safe and the other is a NiMH 7.5. The Intirns. safe batt. seems to only last around 12 hours (No Scan or Xmit) the NiMH lasts nearly 24 hours. Any clues here? Anyone have the same problem?

Yep, I have a HNN9010AR Intrinsically Safe, date 10-2003 and a HNN9009a standard battery, date 1-2004 and out of the two batterys the new battery will out last the IS one by 2-3 hours, I thought it had something to do with the Intrinsically Safe option.

What's the mAh for the batteries? One could be a high capacity battery, while the other a low cap. What are the datecodes on the batteries? If the Intrinsically Safe battery is older, the cells could be worn.

The IS batt. is new while the other batt. is about 3 years old. I have 4 batt's total that I cycle through once every 4 days. and they seem to last longer than the IS batt.

The IS battery has short circuit protection which reduces its output voltage by approximately half a volt, compared to a standard battery. This reduced voltage will cause the low battery sensor in the radio to trigger sooner with the IS battery. The good news is that this means that you can safely use the IS battery until the radio won't turn on any more without damaging it, since the cells themselves are still at a higher voltage level.
RSS/CPS for several radio models contain fields to specify whether IS batteries are being used. This changes the low battery alarm voltage threshold. I'm not sure whether the 1550 software has this field or not. If it does, and if you can standardize on one battery type, you can set the field accordingly.
I would not, however, recommend setting it for IS batteries if you are going to be using regular batteries. Doing so would lead you to over-discharge those standard batteries.
