Swapping MSF5000 power amps from 75 to 110 watts?

Post by FMROB »

I have the 75 watt version PA amplifier on my MSF and I see someone who is selling a 110 watt version.

Are they plug and play, or is there more involved in the switch.

Thanks, Rob

just make sure some yo yo didn't put a 75w PA into your chassis w/o replacing the power supply with the 500w version

My two bits worth:
You don't mention any model numbers.
I think that changing out the power amp is a wast of time and money, not necessarily in that order.

The effects of power output is grossley overrated.
You will likely not notice any difference in going form 70 to 110W.

can your duplexor or combiner handle the power, does the license permit that much power. An efficent antenna system can provide more gain both in transmit and receive.

No sense having transmit power when you cannot hear mobiles
Cause Motorola said so that's why

Doug, Is there an easy way to tell the 500 watt version power supply??

As for the change to the 110 watt.

The 75 watt pa is acting a little funny, and needs to be changed. I was able to obtain the 110 watt version, so I just wanted to know if they were interchangable.

Someone had mentioned that the difference between lets say 60 watts vers. 90 watts is not noticeable. Well maybe it is, but after the effects of the loss, and/ or antenna gain the difference between 60 and 90 watts can be certaintly sizeable.

More to follow when I rx the newer PA...Rob
