A good Tech/Hack Question!!!!

Hello everybody, I love the new board. I have a 2 channel VHF Model#h01kdc9aa1dn ht1000 that was given to me as a paperweight. All Electronics checked out inside the radio i.e fuse. Anyway, a friend managed to recover the radio using the pump the codeplug into the radio while you unplug the cable from the source radio method. Unfortunetly the source radio was UHF. Then with a friends Lab rss he changed the Model # to H05KDD9AA4AN 16 Channel Vhf. After correcting the base freq. and all the channel freqs. to normal specs we managed to get the radio the power up with the normal High pitched beep. The radio will read and write normally using normal rss, but it seems that transmitter and reciever are not functioning. No red light when ptt is pressed. If any of you smart Guys out there know a remedy it would be greatly appreciated.
P.S- He also tried changing the model # with the 2 channel version but with no luck. The lab rss he has does not have the original # listed, the one it has listed is close, 2nd to last digit is A instead of D.It must be an older version.

It is very possible that the soft-pot tuning values are all wrong, in which case the radio will do exactly as you are describing. The radio will need to be aligned, the VCO crossovers programmed, and checked against a calibrated service monitor to be able to transmit or receive within FCC spec. If you just want to get the thing working, then make sure your VCO crossover is programmed to published spec and the radio should lock, albeit will probably sound like garbage.

Your problem is that he forced the HT1000 into becoming a Visar. (Ho5Kdd9aa4an is a Visar not a HT1000).

Although the fellow with the HT1000 certainly won't think this is funny at all, it's still great to see something as "unusual" as this from time to time here on the board!

I've seen a pre-production Astro Saber with a 256K flash memory vocon board that thinks it's either an MTS-2000 or a Saber SI. I'm not sure which, but it'll lock up for no reason at all. It could use a real controller.

Radio south is right. When the model number is suggesting that it is a visar, things will go awry. Try: H01KDC9AA3DN. Make sure you use the "DN" at the end. The labware will tell you that it does not recognize the desired string, but prompt you to make a choice. Tell it to accept it anyway. This will give you a VHF HT1000. If you feel like sending me your codeplug, I will try to restore it for you. HT's are much easier than MTSX's.

Thank you again for everyones help. This Board(tool) is the most useful in my toolbox.I Managed to restore my wannabe Visar back to a fully functioning and tuned VHF 16 channel Ht1000. And yes it was comical with the visar thing, but I had nothing to lose seeing how it was originaly a given to me paperweight. I managed to restore the radio using newer rss and even brought it back to the original model #. Some minor mods. to the rss, everything working fine now. See you on the next post.

Great- a WIN-WIN situation. A bit of entertainment for the group and Gman got a nice working radio out of a paperweight.
