HT1250 Scan Speed?

Post by mdahl »

Hi

I have a HT1250 (actually it's a GP380) setup with a total of 11 channels and one scan list. Beacuse it's a european model it has support for Select- 5 signaling.

The squelch is set to "Tone Squelch" and it is listening for tone sequences starting with 09 followd by 3 variable digits, the decoder is set to 09(A1A2A3). The first tone can be up to 1000 ms.

Sometimes it works but most often it misses the calls. I think the scan speed is to slow. Could this be true? Would it really take about 1 second to scan 11 channels? Is there a way to speed it up?

Hi,

Although I don't believe you can speed up the scan- Moto radios are not known for their "turbo scan" properties, They don't really make great scanners--------What you can do (if you haven't already) is to assign Priority scan to the channel you are missing the dispatches on.

You might consider this as an option:

Since you are only using 11 of the 16 channels, you might program the frequency that you are expecting to hear the tones on in several places.

For example, program that one frequency in to channels 1,4,7,10,13. The rest of your channels fit in between.

I know that makes things a bit sloppy, but you are more likely to land on that channel in time to catch the page.....

Of course, this only works if you are only receiving pages on one or two channels...

I would change the scan hang time. Go to radio configuration and click on scan. I have our HT1250's set on 750,because we don't set a any channel as priority. I think they were set on 1500 new. This should help you it did me.

You guys are on the right track here. I thought about it for half an hour last night and couldn't come up with a solution. An adjustment of scan hold and hang time seems appropriate, however if the radio stops on another channel while in scan mode, he'll miss the tones regardless of how the list or times are set.

The only sure fire way to do it would be setting Priority and a 500ms delay. But then you'll get the annoying "tick, tick, tick, tick" while stopped on another channel.

......still thinking......

Guy's lets be honest, I don't care who makes the radio, if you are using a portable as a pager for paging that you can't miss, DO NOT SCAN!!

Over the past years we have tried just about everything Motorola, Kenwood, GE, Vertex, and even ICOM. If you are listening for tones that you can not miss, then use a pager, or do not scan.

We used to sell organizations on portables instead of pagers, using the "Why spend $400 on a pager when you can spend $600 to $700 on a portable?" Well we all know how Volunteers are... "If it has scan why can't we use it?" Then they wonder why they miss a page? (Before anyone gets upset, I volunteer for 2 EMS, and 1 FD.)

A pager is a pager, a portable can be used as a pager, just do not scan.

My 2 1/2 cents worth.

Agreed. Even playing around with CPS I can't come up with a solution. If you absolutely can't miss a page, you need to get a pager or just don't scan.

Thank you for your time.

I use the GP380 to scan the swedish police. They use at least 10 channels and a dispatch call can be on any of those channels. The police itself use Ericsson P505/Niros TRX1001 and they scan a total of 15 channels.

When I reduced the number of channels from 11 to 10 the result was better. But still I miss some calls. The reason I use the tone squelch is that usually several channels will have a carrier but without any conversation.
