Maxtrac 300 Getting It To Scan
Have 2 units and neither one will go into scan mode. Scan list has 16 channels selected, 15 no priority and 1 channel as prioirity. When the scan button is depressed there is no sound or action. The select botton makes a beep and thats it. AM I missing something here is get them to scan????

Maxtrac 300 Getting It To Scan
I am using a base microphone so I assume it does the off on hook, but I will recheck with a mobile mic on hook.
When I try to select channels it just emitts a beep. Pushing the scan button does nothing, no action no beep.

Is the radio enabled for scan?
I have a Radius M208 (very similar to your radio) which would not scan until I "convinced" it that it was a model that had scan capabilities, now it works fine.
Check out the page on batlabs for details how to do this.

scan
Have you held the scan button down until the display is blinking and then pressed select to to add the scan segment to the upper left corner of the display on the channels that you wish to scan?

Re: Maxtrac 300 Getting It To Scan
If your base mike doesn't have a "monitor" key, as I recall, it won't be "on hook" normally. When you plug in the mobile mic, make sure that the metal button on the back of the mic is grounded. By pressing the monitor button, it lifts the ground and cuts out PL/DPL as well as stopping scanning.Daniel Watson wrote:I am using a base microphone so I assume it does the off on hook, but I will recheck with a mobile mic on hook.

What Scan?
I am reading about gm300
scanning.
Maxtrac scan is set up a different way.
It has scan lists on the RSS
per channel. It is not like the gm300.
Dan your radio is in the mail.

Re: What Scan?
Depending on the Maxtrac model, it can do front panel setup selected scan as well as RSS programmed scan. Similar if not identical to the GM300 scan setup, again depending on the model.raymond345 wrote:I am reading about gm300

You could check thru this thread in case you missed something.

But you should at least get a boop error tone when pushing the scan button. Maybe they were initialized with no scan. You may have to blank em and re-initialize.....

Maxtrac 300 Getting It To Scan
Well, I have tried all the suggestions and double checked for little things and tried everything except blanking and intializing. I have not performed this procedure but I assume it is done with MaxLab Tool Kit or some other software???
Did you ever answer the above question? One way to verify if the on/off hook circuitry works is by looking at the yellow light and see if it follows the hook switch.Nand wrote:In that case, can you verify that the mic hook switch is actually seen by the radio? Does it turn the yellow MON light on and off. If it does not, there is a problem with the monitor circuitry in the radio.
Nand.
The microcomputer needs to see the switch on hook before it will allow scanning.

Yes, monitor light is on and I put it on hook and tried both ways. With Base Mic and with a mobile mic connected to ground to make the monitor light go off. Yellow off hook and goes out on hook. They used in an ambulance service and looked pretty clean but I will try cleaning the behind the buttons. F6 Scan list says not to select more than 16 cheannels so I only have 16 selected. Thanks for all your efforts.

Radios Now Scan "Thank You"
Inspection behind the scan button revealed a break in the circuit board. To prevent them from scanning someone cut the ribbon so the circuit to the button was open. All I did was clean the board and solder a bridge over the cut. Both units scan great now.

Well, it's good to know that at least you know it wasn't something you were doing incorrect. I've had a few really dumb things happen that I thought were me being stupid, but were really hardware issues, such as the Jedi with a speaker that didn't work (it wasn't even installed!)

maxtrac scanning
I love this forum, and the search feature with it. This post solved a simple problem for me. I too, couldn't get my maxtrac to scan, but after reading suggestions in this post, figured it out. Technically, I was on the right track all along, but thought I'd give something alse a try. My monitor light would not go out, even when "grounding the mic" to a metal object: on top of that, I could not scan. I read where the monitor must be off for scanning to occur.
After reading this post, I thought I would try to place the mic in a REAL, genuine mic holder to see if that would make a difference. Guess what ? The monitor light went off, and my maxtrac is scanning and receiving just fine.
So yes, USE A REAL MIC HOLDER !!, and save yourself the frustration I ,and I'm sure others, have endured. Yours may be a different problem, but several ideas were brought up in this post, try 'em out !!
Thanks Batlabs, and you contributors for making this info available !!
