Unusual MT1000 model number?

Post by indigo »

Well, at least it is to me: I have a 16ch VHF MT1000 w/DTMF (factory) that is model number H43GCR7100CN. What is unusual to me is the 'R' designation. I've known most other MT1000's to have as their Model #'s 5th character a "U" (Universal) or "J" (Display). This unit was originally a unit used on the Southern Pacific Railroad, probably a conducter's handy. Was the 'R' a Moto designation for units issued to railroads or does this designate something else.

Also, does anyone know the approximate years produced for the MT1000, and how the second to last digit in model # (A, B, C) relates to year mfd (know "C" was latest)?

Finally, have another post from Fri. Oct 15 below re. a 99-chan MT1000 and some questions - if you know MT1000's and can help, please do.

Miss ya Monty!
