Crystal Info on Advisor Gold NRD7688A5

Post by scvfd1204 »

I have 7 vhf receiver boards from Advisor Gold pagers. I am trying to figure out what frequency they are on. There are no frequencies printed on the crystal other than the following:

50826
666
X6460
C9946 (this line varies from rf board to rf board)

Does anyone happen to know what this information would translate to as far as the rx freq? I need these board to operate on 158.700.

Also, I have on RF board from the Advisor Gold (or elite) series with the part number NRD3737A3 printed on it. Does anyone happen to know what freqnecy range this board operates on? I have about 5 or 6 Advisor Golds that were originally on the UHF band, non-FLEX.

Anyone have any info?

Thanks in advance.

I thought all Advisor Golds were synthesized.

Clavo - Advisor Elites are synthesized (as are Advisor 2s). Advisor, Advisor Pro, Advisor Gold are all rock-bound.

The only thing I can find in the search is NRD3737A4, which subs to NRD7655A4SP01, which has been cancelled, and is labeled STD RCVR EAGLE VHF 156-161.999. Not sure if that is correct or not.

Find one of your local paging places and talk to them about recrystaling the pagers. We recently had a pager recrystalled by WaveWare Technologies, here in Dallas, and they did a fine job:

What you have is an Advisor Gold RF board, using zero IF. They take a special crystal, give Sentry Mfg a call, or any other paging crystal mfr. and tell them you want KXN-6460 on 158.700. Those are easy to align, you install the crystal and a trimmer cap, and you can zero-beat it without injecting the 17.9 IF signal.

Hi
i can help you:
Your boars have a crystal on 50,826666MHz
So they receive on : 50,826666MHZ x 3 + 17.9MHZ (ZF) = 170.380MHZ
right?
And you need 158.700 MHZ
so you have to order a crystal on
(158,700-17,9)/ 3 = 46,93333MHz

sorry my english is not very well

Daniel-with his RX board, it doesn't work that way...it uses no IF. So, take the crystal nominal, in the above example, 50826.666, multiply it times 3, equals 152.480 MHz. You don't have to add the 17900 IF frequency.

All Advisor Gold pagers are crystalled, all Advisor Elite pagers are synthesized.

Thanks for all the info guys. Sorry It has taken me so long to respond. My computer crashed out on me at the end of last week, and I have just got it back up and running after a complete reformat.

Ok, so the Advisor Gold boards do NOT use an IF, so I take the numbers on the crystal (up to the 666) and multiply by 3 and get the frequency. Ok on that. That is a MAJOR help at this point.

I need to get these board re crystaled asap, so I'm looking for all of the help I can get. As far as alignment on the boards goes, I'm not really sure how to do that part. I don't have the expensive test equipment needed. Perhaps it can be done by ear or using something other than a service monitor.

After I get the boards recrystaled, I need to find a programming cradle for the Advisr Golds. I can make one, but I need the pinout diagram for the programming pins. Anyone have this info?

Thanks!

Also, a couple more questions.

I have some RF boards that will fit the Advisor classic

I have the following numbers:

NRF4101D (Crystal Data: 62836A30 75986.458, IF of 17.9)
NRE6552C (Crystal Data: 52228125X6301, IF of 45.0)
NRF4163A (Crystal Data: 62836A26 75978.125, IF of 17.9)
AARD4053A (Crystal Data: 44780 KXN6300 T9224, IF of 17.9)

I cant get the above data to calculate out to anything I can see as a valid frequency. Can anyone help me with this? Usually, I am pretty good with this type of stuff, but for some reason I cannot figure it out. I guess my brain is going downhill.

Thanks again guys!
Batlabs does it again!
