I am trying to figure out what mods if any need to be made for a mocom 70 reciever to recieve in the vhf ham band.

Hi:

As you may or may not know, the Mocom 70's
did come in a few ranges.

The 136-174 Mhz range would be ideal for Ham
Service, and even the 150.8-174 Version will work and those were used on the High-Power models. D53 ext...If you have one of these versions, you can either add or replace a few
Caps and it will bring in right into your range.

Anyhow, I did make a pair of them work
for a local Mex Repeater on El Diablo, and
as far as I know they still work today. They
are a pretty old radio, but they tend to live
longer in rough enviroments where lightning
is a problem.

May not give super receive performance, but
when there is no access for 2-3 months out of the year, they do not cost much to replace
or service.

For some reason, Maxtracs / Radius Mobiles
just do not tend to live above 9000/10,000'
